ABSTRACT

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 5 is kidney damage due to destruction of the
structure of the kidneys and lead to disruption of renal function on an ongoing basis so
that patients experience a buildup of metabolism in the body, one of which urea. One of
the most frequently performed therapy of patients with CKD stage 5 is hemodialysis
(HD).HD Therapy were expected to excrete urea so the patients experience of uremic
pruritus can be improved better, but after undergoing HD the uremic pruritus symptoms
are not reduced in some patients because the HD could onlyexcretedthe uremic
toxinspartially. This study aims to determine the correlation between the onset of
hemodialysiswith the degree of pruritus in patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 in
dr. ZainoelAbidin Banda Aceh Hospital. The method used analytical observational and
cross sectional approach with total sampling technique. The onset of HD assesed by
looking at the registrationdata and degree of pruritus uremic using a Pruritus Grading
System questionnaire. Of the 56 respondents obtained the degree of pruritus are most
mild (66.1%), 28.6% moderate and severe 5.3%. The onset of dialysis were perfomed
between 3 months-11.6 years. Statistical analysis with Mann-Whitney test showed there
was no correlation between the onset of hemodialysiswith the degree of pruritus in
patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 in dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh (p-value =
0.392).
