Focus Group Plan

Mike, Steve, TJ, Patrick, Jessie, Pete

Purpose: See if there is a correlation between where people get their information on climate
change and the perception of climate changes risk and health and environmental impacts

Primary Question: Where do people get their information on climate change and how does
the information affect their perception of climate change and the health risks (And
environmental risks) associated with climate change?

Subtopics and related questions:


Source of information (News, Social Networking, Text, Videos)
Where do you primarily get your information about Clim ate change from? (News,Social Media,
Books/Text articles or videos)
(Maybe be more specific here, like if someone gets their information from social media, ask
them what social media site they get it from, twitter, Facebook, etc. Same with news, ask
what newspaper or news site they use, new york times, philadelphia inquirier, etc..
What is your perception on climate change?
(Do you believe climate change is real?)
(Do you think it is man-made?)
(Do you think the government should take steps to reduce climate change?)
(Should there be a carbon tax?)
(Where does it rank on your list of concerns?)
Impacts of climate change on them (health impacts/ direct impacts)
Has climate change personally impacted you or people you know?
(Ask if anyone they know was affected by Hurricane Sandy, and if they think climate
change had anything to do with it.)
Probe: Has seeing someone/ yourself be impacted make you change you your behavior
towards preventing climate change?
Current perception of climate change and perceived risks
Do you feel that climate change poses any potential risks to you currently?
