Weekly news from March 20th - March 24th


Next weeks lifeskill is: Flexibility - to be willing to alter your plans when necessary.

From the Office:


Our Box Tops for Education drive continues! Help us earn free money for Highland! Please send all Box Tops in with
your student. Remember, to please keep clipping for the spring drive too.

PLEASE make sure that children do not bring anything other than school supplies to school. We do not want students
bringing Pokemon cards, toys, or anything else that could be a distraction.

Students received a green form last week. The form is for placing your child in the best learning environment in
middle school. Please fill out the form and return it as soon as possible. The form is officially due on Friday, March
24.

Picture Day is Tuesday, March 21st...Bring Your Smiles!!!

From the Classroom:


We are in need of replenishing school supplies. Please talk to your student to see if they need more pencils,
dry-erase markers, or scissors. We use these supplies daily and are running very low in the classroom. Thank you
for your support!!!:)

Math Students will study mean, median, mode, range and various types of graphs.
Science - Students will begin studying and researching inventors and inventions.
Reading 5.RL.3.1Explain how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a

particular play,story, play, or poem. We will also be revisiting theme and how to analyze a poem. 5.RL.3.2 - Point of
View influences how events are portrayed. 5.RL.2.2 - Determine a theme of a story, play or poem from details in the
text. Identify how a speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic. (We will continue to analyze poetry in class with our
gallery walk. Students will be working in small groups, on their own, and conferencing with me as well to check for
understanding.
Social Studies -This week we will focus on the Oregon Trail and finish up Lesson 11. Test will be towards the end of the
week.
Grammar -5.W.6.2b Demonstrate command of applying correct usage of apostrophes and quotation marks in writing.
Using a comma for appositives, to set off the words "yes" and "no", to set off a tag question from the rest of the
sentence, and to indicate direct address. (We will be reviewing daily the 8 rules of commas daily. Students will be
practicing on paper and online. There will be a quiz on Friday.
Spelling - No Spelling this week:)
