physical bodies but to mathematical points.

Upagrahas - Dhuma
This Upagraha is malefic in nature and is calculated based on Surya's longitude. Dhuma Upagraha
is Surya's longitude + 13320'. Its lordship is Mangal (Mars). In some texts it is said to be
in Exaltation in Simha Rasi, Debilitation in Khumba Rasi, Swakshetra in MakaraRasi.

Upagrahas - Vyatipaata
This Upagraha is malefic in nature and is calculated based on Surya's longitude. Vyatipaata
Upagraha is 360 - Dhuma. Its lordship is Rahu. In some texts it is said to be in Exaltation
in Vrichika Rasi, Debilitation in Rishabha Rasi, Swakshetra inMithuna Rasi.

Upagrahas Parivesha
This Upagraha is malefic in nature and is calculated based on Surya's longitude. Parivesha
Upagraha is Vyatipata's longitude + 180. Its lordship is Chandra (Moon). In some texts it is said to
be in Exaltation in Mithuna Rasi, Debilitation in Dhanur Rasi, Swakshetra in Dhanur Rasi.

Upagrahas Indrachaapa
This Upagraha is malefic in nature and is calculated based on Surya's longitude. Indrachaapa
Upagraha is 360 - Pariveshas longitude. Its lordship is Rahu (Moons node). In some texts it is said
to be in Exaltation in Dhanur Rasi, Debilitation in MithunaRasi, Swakshetra in Kataka Rasi.
Upagrahas - Kaala, Mrityu, Arthaprahaara,
Yamaghantaka, Gulika and Maandi
The time from sunset to next sunrise is divided into eight parts, and the first portion is assigned to
the 5th lord of the weekday. Each of these parts can be assigned to a Kala Vela. Default
assignements are: the portion of the Sun Ist Kala, Mars is the lord of Mrityu, Jupiter lords Yama
Ghantaka, Mercury rules Ardha Prahara and Saturn rules Gulika. Moon and Venus have no Kala
Vela.

Upagrahas - Upaketu
This Upagraha is malefic in nature and is calculated based on Surya's longitude. Upaketu Upagraha
is Surya's longitude 30. Its lordship is Ketu. In some texts it is said to be in Exaltation
in Khumba Rasi, Debilitation in Simha Rasi, Swakshetra in Kataka Rasi.

Sthir Dasha
In this Dasha system 7, 8 and 9 years are the Dasha periods of the Movable (Chara),Fixed
(Sthira) and Dual (Dwisvabhava) rasis. In this system the Dasha of the 12 rasis begins from
the rasi where Brahma Graha is placed. The Dashas are counted onwards from the odd rasis and in
the reverse order from the even rasi.

Chakr Dasha
If the birth is at night, the Dasha will commence from Lagna. If the birth is during the day, the Dasha
will start from the rasi, where lord of Lagna is placed. If the birth is during Sandhya, the Dasha will
begin from the rasi of the second Bhava. The Dasha of each rasiis 10 years.

Shastihayani Dasha
This Dasha becomes operative, when surya is placed in Lagna. The order of Dasha Lords
is: Guru, Surya, Mangal, Chandra, Budha, Sukhra, Sani and Rahu. The Dashas of Guru, Surya and
Mangal are of 10 years. The remaining Grahas have Dashas of 6 years
each.Guru (Ashvini, Bharani, Kritika, Punarvasu), Surya (Rohini, Mrigashira, Ardra, U.Ashadha),Man
gal (Pushya, Aslesha, Magha, Revati), Chandra (P.Phalguni, U.Phalguni, Hast),Budha (Swati, Visha
kah, Anuradha), Sukhra (Jyeshtha, Mul, P.Ashadha), Sani (Abhijit,Shravan, Dhanishtha), Rahu (Shat
abhisha, P.Bhadra, U.Bhadra).

Dwisaptati-Sama Dasha
This Dasha system is applied, when the Lord of Lagna is in Lagna, or in Yuvati bhava. Count
from Mula Nakshatra to the Janma Nakshatra and divide the number by 8. The remainder indicate
the Dasha Lords in the order: Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Budha, Guru,Sukhra, Sani and Rahu. In this
Dasha system all the eight Grahas have Dashas of 9 years each.

Chaturashiti-Sama Dasha
Chaturashiti-Sama Dasha is applied when the Karma Lord is placed in Karma Bhava. Count from
Swati to the Janma Nakshatra and divide the number by 7. The remainder will indicate the Dasha
Lords in the order: Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Budha, Guru, Sukhra and Sani. The Dasha period of
each Graha is 12 years.

Shodshottari Dasha
The Dasha becomes operative either the Lagna is in the Hora of Chandra (birth during Krishna
Paksha) or Lagna is in the Hora of Surya (birth in the Shukla Paksha). Count the number of
Nakshatras from Pushya to the Janma Nakshatra. Dividing this number by 8, the remainder will be
dashas of Surya, Mangal, Guru, Sani, Ketu, Chandra, Budha, Sukhra and are of 11, 12, 13, 14, 15,
16, 17, 18 years respectively.

Yogini Dasha
The eight types of Yoginis are Mangala, Pingala, Dhanya, Bhramari, Bhadrika, Ulka, Siddha, Sankat
evolved by chandra, surya, guru, mangal, budha, sani, sukhra, rahu respectively. The sequence of
these Yoginis are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 years totaling 36 years. Add 3 to nakshatra number. Divide by 8.
The remainder represents the Yogini dasha operative at the time of birth. If the reminder is
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, then Mangala, Pingala, Dhanya, Bhramari, Bhadrika, Ulka, Siddha, Sankata dasha in
operation.

Panchottari Dasha
The Lagna is Cancer or the Lagna is in Cancer Dwadasamsa then Panchottari Dasha applies.
Counting from Anuradha up to the Janma Nakshatra and dividing the number by 7, the remainder
indicates the Dasha in the order of the lords is Surya, Budha, Sani, Mangal,Sukhra, Chandra, Guru
and periods are 12, 13, 14, 15, 16,17, 18 years respectively.

Dwadashottari Dasha
This is conditional dasa system when Lagna is in the Navamasa of Sukhra. Counting from Janma Nakshatra to
Revati and dividing it by 8 results in a reminder which will indicate the Dasha of the Graha concerned in the
order is Surya, Guru, Ketu, Budh, Rahu, Mangal,Sani, Chandra and period will be of 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19
and 21 years respectively. Here notably sukhra is omitted.

Shatabdik Dasha
If Lagna is Vargottama, Shatabdik Dasha is applied. Count from Revati to the Janma Nakshatra and this
number is divided by seven. The remainder indicates the Lords of Dashas in this order: Surya, Chandra, Sukra,
Budha,Guru, Mangal and Sani and period will be 5, 5, 10, 10, 20, 20 and 30 years respectively.

Ayanamsa
Ayanamsa is the longitudinal difference between the Tropical (Syana) and Sidereal (Nirayana) zodiacs.

Bhukti (Antardasha)
Each Vimshottari Dasha is subdivided into periods called Bhukti or Antardasha. It follows the same order as
Mahasasha i.e Ketu, Sukhra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Sani, Budha, each having same
proportional period length

Vimshottari Dasha
Vimshottari Dasha is a cycle of planetary position based on the position of chandra in one of the twenty seven
nakshatras. In this system, each graha is assigned a major period called mahadasha.
