PLANNING
List the Common Core/State Standard(s) to be addressed in this lesson:
3.G.1.2 Locate the seven continents, four oceans, and major physical
features and regions of the United States on a map or globe
ISTE Standard: 7.b. Use collaborative technologies to work with others,
including peers, experts or community members, to examine issues and
problems from multiple viewpoints
List the Learning Objective(s) to be addressed in this lesson. Use the
following format: Students will be able to
Students will be able to use Google Earth and other maps to identify the
southern states of the United States.
List the words relevant to the content area that you will either introduce
and/or review during your lesson.
TECHNOLOGY
Describe the instructional and/or assistive technology that you plan to
incorporate into the lesson to enhance instruction and student learning.
Students will use laptops, the SMART Board, and Google Earth to better
understand where things are on the earth along with how it relates to them
and their daily lives.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Describe the accommodations/differentiation/modifications you will use to
meet the needs of all learners and accommodate differences in students
learning, culture, language, etc. * Be sure that these accommodations are
based on what you identified/described in your contextual information
(Task I).
Students IEPs will be followed along with any students with hearing
disabilities and visual disabilities will be sat closer to the front of the
classroom to accommodate their needs.
MANAGEMENT
Identify the management and motivational strategies you will use to meet student
behavioral/developmental needs in order to keep students on task and actively engaged
throughout the lesson.
The teacher will be walking around the classroom to monitor laptop use
and be able to answer questions that the students have. The classroom
will be arranged prior to lesson so that certain behavioral problems are
avoided.
LESSON IMPLEMENTATION
I Do
(Teacher introduces lesson and models expected outcome of
learning objectives)
Describe how you will activate student interest and present the learning
objective in an engaging way (this is your lesson opening).
Teacher will address students and get their attention by using a regular
classroom call back. From there, the students will sing the states song that
they have been working on. From there, the teacher will show the students
on the board the southern states and why they are special.
Describe how you will communicate (to students) how the objective is
relevant to their lives.
The teacher will then go into asking the students if they know anything
about those states. From there, the teacher will list many of the interesting
historical and present facts about those states and how the students will
have to know these for history class in a few years so its helpful if they
know where they are. And if the students ever want to travel there, they
will have to know where they are.
Describe how you will check for students understanding before moving on
to guided practice.
To check for understand, the teacher will have each student name one of
the states in the southern portion covered in the I Do
We Do
(Teacher engages students in guided practice)
Describe the learning activities you will use to provide students multiple opportunities to
practice the skills and content needed to meet the learning objective(s).
To continue the lesson, the teacher will have the students take out their
laptops and open up the app Google Earth. From there, it will be the
students job with teacher prompting them through it to find each state and
draw it on their map provided by the teacher based on the image shown on
Google Earth. They will have already been introduced to Google Earth and
how to search for areas and locations within it.
Describe how you will check for students understanding before moving on to independent
practice.
Teacher will check each students drawings while walking around observing
the class. The students will have to be able to identify their states that
they have drawn if the teacher asks them to.
You Do
(Students engage in independent practice)
Describe what the students will do to independently practice the knowledge and skills
required by the lesson objectives? (this is the post-assessment)
Students will be given a worksheet in which they are required to write
down the states in the blanks provided on the map. This will be similar to
the first worksheet they were given on the Midwest states only focusing on
the southern states.
APPENDIX: Include a blank copy of your post-assessment.
Is your BLANK COPY of the post-assessment included at the end of this
lesson plan?
Lesson Closing
Describe how you will reemphasize the lesson objective and any
skills/content that were taught in an interactive manner (whole/small
group, etc.).
When the students are done with the you do section of the lesson, they
will be prompted with a familiar call back. From there the students will say
together the states as the teacher points to them on the SMART Board and
a few of the students will be called up to the board to pull the correct
states to their place on the map.
ANALYZE
(This portion may only be done after the post assessment is
collected/scored.)
Describe the results of the Post-Assessment and be sure to address the following:
Students progress from pre-to-post assessment. (if applicable)
Factors that may have influenced the post assessment results.
How the results of the post assessment highlight what areas of the
lesson will require re-teaching (if any).
If applicable, insert a table/chart/graph (below) that shows the post-assessment data
results. If you used the same document for both the pre and post assessments, it is strongly
encouraged that you show the comparison.
Insert an image of your table/chart/graph here.
Description:
REFLECT
List and describe two things you feel you did well to plan, implement, or assess instruction
(successes).
List and describe two things you feel were challenges during the planning, implementation
and/or assessment of the lesson.
List and describe two ideas for redesign you would make if you were to teach this lesson
again.
