California Standards in Technology

The 21st century technology standards in California for Kindergartens are low.

There is no standard for Kindergartens, no requirements to teach Kindergartens

technology. However, there are standards for elementary grade level. According to

the 2016 ISTE Standards for students, the standards entails empowering students

with technology; inspire and encourage students to take ownership of their learning;

students goal also includes digital world and stay connected in their curriculum;

students need to recognize that they have responsibilities in being safe when using

technology; have meaningful learning experiences; students be exposed and learn a

variety of technology; learn to communicate in different, but responsible and

respectable ways; learn to problem solve, and learn to work with others well.

According to the California Education Technology Blueprint, A Blueprint for

Great Schools, a plan presented to State Superintendent Tom Torlakson by leaders

from across California, provides vision and direction for our education system,

including a focus on 21st Century learning, meeting the needs of the whole child,

and rebuilding the ranks of Californias teachers with resources and respect. Several

recommendations within A Blueprint for Great Schools (PDF) prompted the

Superintendent to initiate a process to update the educational technology strategic

plan to reflect new trends and research. The process includes the appointment of an

Education Technology Task Force composed of educators familiar with technology

use in California schools; a public website to gather opinions and views; a listening

tour and public briefings by the Superintendents top advisors; a review of the

research and literature; and an extensive field review of draft documents. The

Reflection

I find technology to be fascinating. There are so much technology in our world

and constantly changing, that theres just not enough time to learn all of it. I find

that its best for teachers to do some research, collaboration, and trial and errors in

finding what type of technology (high and low) that can work in the curriculum for

all of their students. Its important to keep in mind that students will learn

technology, various tools, apps, programs, and functions faster than teachers,

because they are eager, faster and great tech savvy learners. Teachers need to bear

in mind that the more they exposed students using technology in the classroom, the

faster and more comfortable students will be in using technology.

I do find iPads and other tablets to be informative and a great way tool in

engaging students in participating. There are so much accessibility, apps,

educational, and different tools and ways that we can use with our students. Often

times, students will find other apps and or other ways in utilizing iPads. They are

faster learners and faster in finding apps that help them cure their curiosity. In other

words whatever they are interested in knowing, they will find an app or ways in

learning on how to do it. This is why educators need effective PDs that could help

them build their knowledge in technology and skills.

Framework of the 21st Century

There are so many characteristics of the 21st'century learner, such as

remaining to learn and master content areas, or core subjects, English, Math, Social

Studies, Science, as well teaching our students to communicate better or to improve

their communication skills, their critical thinking skills, and their creativity skills.

Technology grows fast and changes daily, that there is so much of great technology

tools, software, apps, and devices in the world, that there is just not enough time,

energy or the tools to learn everything or introduce them to our students.

As a leader on a campus, I might want to meet with all of my educators by

grade level or by content areas for introduction, take a survey on their needs,

includes technology, classroom support, issues, outstanding issues, what they

would like to learn or get help with, then put everyone surveys, requests, issues,

and technology needs together and have a big meeting like a staff meeting to go

over the things I have learned from everyone. Have everyone do a technology

survey during the meeting and from there, put together what technology, software,

equipment, training, support, etc. and get my staff what they need. As a leader, I do

appreciate everyone help, their day to day work they do for the students, their

dedication and support, and I would like to show them that I care and listened.

Celebration

Brief I will continue to work hard, learn new things each day, share knowledge, and retain
Reflection information to the best of my ability. I will continue to broaden my education knowledge
and be open minded to new technology information.

I would find this personal technology goal to be a real good challenge for
Self-
Assessment me. The challenge would be professional, personal, and rewarding,

because I could test my PowerPoint skills and knowledge, as well as

sharing and transferring skills to my colleagues. Once my in-service

assignment is completed, I would have everyone complete a survey, so I

could follow up on each one of them to see if they need further training

or have any questions for me. I will work hard, stay healthy, and always maintain

a positive mindset.
