Learning outcomes Students should understand


1. the principles of mechanical and hydrostatic transmission.
2. mechanical characteristics of electric DC &AC motors.
3. Power transmission by hydrostatic drives
4. Energy conversion, losses, recuperation at driving systems of machines
Should be able to do the dynamic calculations of mechanical and hydrostatic drives with
the assumption of rigid constrains.

Course description LECTURE


The principles of internal combustion engines. Power transmission of mobiles. Modern
energy saving driving systems with energy recovery. Electrical motors and their
mechanical characteristics. The control systems for electrical motors. Energy recovery by
electrical motors.
The principles of the operation of hydrostatic drives. Elements of hydrostatic drives, their
function and characteristics. Open loop systems and variable hydrostatic power
transmission. The efficiency of hydrostatic drives.
Dynamics of mechanical power transmission with rigid constrains. Dynamics of
hydrostatic power transmission with rigid constrains. Braking and starting time of the
mechanism, torque, velocity, power. Energy losses and the efficiency. Direction of
energy flow.

Operation of the internal combustion engine and power transmission. – lab work
Operation and control of electrical drive (DC & AC) – lab work
Operation of hydrostatic drives and their control – lab work
Design and calculation of the power transmission and dynamics of simple mechanisms.
Project of a simple driving mechanism.
