social science A Thailand and Laos are different in education ,language and economics
because of French
In the past, Colony are people living in a new territory but retaining ties with the

parent state. Being colony are affected the Lao lifestyle, language, economic, culture and

education. Thailand is a country that never been a colony of any union and as a result

Thailand have more preserved traditions than Laos. Education, language and economic of

Thailand and Laos are different because effect of colony.

Firstly, Education of Laos and Thailand are different. Laos has four levels of

education primary, middle, secondary and tertiary, while in Thailand education program is a

basic education that Laotian government make a national program for childrens and it take

about six years. Middle levels is junior high school. Secondary is secondary school which is

perpetuating a self-fulfilling education as an example that the school lets students choose

their own study program in Secondary school. It take two section of three years each, so it

take about six year to complete secondary program same as Thailand. Thailand also take six

years in secondary part. The last program is tertiary education, this program is built by french

colonial government. Frenchs government created a foundation system for Laos. The first

university of Laos was established in 1996, which included education, literature, social

science, economic and management, agriculture, forestry, architecture, engineering, science,

media science and law & political science. If we compare with Thailand education, our levels

of education are separated into five different level which are primary, middle, secondary,

vocational ,tertiary education. Primary education in Thailand is provided by ministry of

education. It take about three years of kindergarten and followed by 6 years of primary

school. Middle education takes about three years. Students will be able to learn Thai, arts and

music, science, technology and foreign languages. Secondary education is a high school in

Thailand. Student will learn about academic education and also elective course that student

prefers to choose such as science/math or physical and. Vocational Education also a high

school but student will choose to have more practical form of education. It takes about two

years. The last level is tertiary education, ministry of education in Thailand will regulated on

both private sector and public colleges. The program that really outstanding in Thailand is

arts, medicine, humanities and information technology. The reason why education of Laos

and Thailand are different because Laos and Thailand have different levels of education. Laos

s education is less than Thailand but they have more efficiently than Thailand. The reason

that Laos education is better than Thailand is Laos have been regime change caused by

French colonies. In that time, Laos also education reform. Education reform are improve their

learning. Thats why Laos education ranking is better than Thailand according to ASEAN

education ranking and also the world education ranking. In ASEAN the ranking Laos is the 6

place come behind with Thailand the 7 place. Hence, we can conclude that education of Laos

is better than Thailand because French colonials.

Lets moving on how Thai and Laos language are little bit different. The Laos

language have similar tone, sound or words to Thailand. However, many people in Laos are

understood in Thai language because Television or their textbook in school. Moreover,

Vientiane and Luang Prabang communicated with each other by speaking English but if we

look at old people they will speak in French because French colonial lets people in Laos

speak in French. While French are completely control Laos, they force Laos to speak and

communicated in French as a result, old people in Laos will be able to speak in French

because they have to learn this language and accepts some of culture. However, when the

time past, people are not speak and communicate in French anymore so, they start to talk in

Laotian. On the other hand, A native language of Thailand is Thai language. Thai people

know that over half of words in Thai language is borrowed from Sanskrit, Pali and Old

Khmer. Thai language are separate four different tone and some different words it depends on

provincial part. For instance, People who live in north of Thailand will speak in Kummuang

language or people who live in south of Thailand will speak in Southern Thai language. Thai

people actually not speak in English or French because we didnt be colony of any union so,

we just have different language depend on provincial part while, Laos people are able to

speak French language because influenced from French.

Lastly, Economic of Thailand and Laos also different too. In the past Laos is a colony

of French but now a day their got an independence so their economy is performed relatively

well. Laos got benefits from international and from foreign. For example ECCIL, it is an

organization that established for dealing business between Europe and Laos so, its stimulated

investor of foreign in Laos. Nevertheless, Thailand as we know that this country have never

been colonized before so they seem not to have any relationship with other country. As we

see all the benefits that Laos have but Thai don't. According to Gross Domestic

Product(GDP) of Laos.

(figure1)

The graph above showing a rates of GDP in Laos since 2006 to 2016. Percentages of

GDP rate are increasing in every year. If rate of GDP is growing up then, economic of the

country will be more stable. This is to say that Laos GDP rate are increasing in every year

because influence of French colonial that develop a system of Laos.

The graph above show GDP rate of Thailand since 2006 tp 2016. You can see that rate

of Thailand are fluctuate. GDP rate of Thailand is higher than Laos but percentages of each

year is not stable. If a GDP rate is fluctuate then, Thailands economic will not stable too.

This graph above is provide an information about comparing GDP rate between Laos

and Thailand. You can see that rate of Thailand are decreasing while Laos are increasing in

every year.

This is an effect of being colony of French. Laos gain a knowledge, culture and

technology from French so, Laos trying to develop a country their economy is growing up in

every year for being developed country in the future. While Thailand economic is slowdown

but GDP percentage of Thailand is a lot higher than Laos. However, Thailand is monarchy

since 1932. Economic in Thailand is regain its growth. The investment climate keep

economic below the potential levels. The one reason that make economic of Thailand

fluctuate because turbulent of government in Thailand. Thailand is the 22nd largest export

economy in the worlds. Although, Thailand is independent nation but rate of export and

communicated with foreign is better than Laos. In my opinion, even Laoss GDP are

increasing in every year but percentages of GDP in Thailand are more higher so, Laos have to

take long time to using those knowledge from French to developing their economic.

For all the given data it shows us that even Laos and Thailand is neighboring

countries which have similar language, cultural or traditional but both country have a

different language, education and economic because colonized from France. therefore, we

can conclude that Colonial are influence to Laos.
