Discovery can encompass the experience of discovering something for


the first time or rediscovering something that has been lost, forgotten
or concealed.
Discoveries can be sudden and unexpected, or they can emerge from a
process of deliberate and careful planning evoked by curiosity,
necessity or wonder.
Discoveries can be fresh and intensely meaningful in ways that may be
emotional, creative, intellectual, physical and spiritual.
An individuals discoveries and their process of discovering can vary
according to personal, cultural, historical and social contexts and
values. Discoveries may be questioned or challenged when viewed
from different perspectives and their worth may be reassessed over
time.
Discoveries can lead an individual to new worlds and values, stimulate
new ideas and enable them to speculate about future possibilities
there.
External discoveries can trigger self-discovery, as interactions with the
world show us our values and ourselves in clearer and sometimes
uncomfortable clear ways.
Discovery is a transitional and transformative process which influences
the values and perceptions of individuals, groups and the broader
world. Going through an identity crisis, enables and individual to
question their moral values in order to discover a new sense of self or
conflict/disruption of order/ moral flaws/limitations of power and
authority serve as a catalyst for meaningful discoveries as individuals
are challenged to reconsider the need for positive values.
An individual can only be receptive to transformative discoveries when
they have reconsidered their values/ beliefs/ assumptions and are
spiritually or emotionally receptive/ developed enough to recognise
their own flawed nature. As often individuals must sacrifice their
previously held beliefs and perceptions of the world in order to
embrace the potential for new discovery.
