Experiment : Heat Transfer (Heat Transfer in a Double-pipe Heat Exchanger)

Objectives of the Experiment
1 Investigate the effects of varying the inlet temperature, the flow rates, and the flow arrangement
(countercurrent or co-current parallel flow) on the temperature profiles in a double-pipe heat exchanger.
2 Determine the overall heat transfer coefficients and the effectiveness of the heat exchanger unit at the
required operating conditions and compare them with theoretically calculated values.

Objective 2: Determine the overall heat transfer coefficients and the effectiveness of the heat exchanger
unit at the required operating conditions and compare them with theoretically calculated values.

Determining the overall heat transfer coefficient based on experimental results

Experimental overall heat transfer coefficient

The needed values to calculate the overall heat transfer coefficient is the heat transfer rate, log-mean-
temperature difference and area of heat transfer.
