Links to curriculum: IBDP Core - Cell division (1.6)
Length of lesson: around 40 minutes
Objectives:
1. After watching a video about the phases of mitosis and cytokinesis, students will be able to draw and label at
least two features of a particular phase and/or cytokinesis of mitosis with a group.
2. After finishing the drawings, students will be required to present their work to the class, and discuss about all
phases.
Key vocabulary: Mitosis, supercoiling, prophase, anaphase, metaphase, telophase, cell division
Common misconceptions: Chromosome and chromatid are the same things.
DNA is replicated at prophase.
Chromosome number is doubled at prophase.
Centrioles are in the nucleus.
Centromere forms spindle fibers.
