The Walthersonian April 2017

Community Meeting Tuesday, May 9, 7:30 PM, Harbel (5807 Harford)

Agenda:
Carmen Moroson (Northeast Planner) & Harford Road Community Review Panel
We will hear about the new zoning code that will be implemented in June and provide
feedback on how it will affect the Lauraville and Hamilton Urban Renewal Plans.

Presidents Letter
Weve had a busy March here in Waltherson this year. We had a fantastic joint meeting with our neighbors in the Lauraville
Improvement Association. We heard plans for the transformation of the Everest Liquor store at Harford & Ailsa and Hamilton-
Lauravilles plans for Light City Baltimore. We also held a vote and agreed to support the liquor license transfer for the liquor
license transfer at Everest as requested by the new owners. We had a successful dinner night at Silver Queen caf helping us
raise some additional needed funds towards our Spring Cookout tentatively
scheduled for Saturday, June 10th. We are in talks with Arts & Ideas and
hope to hold the event in the green space off Walther Ave. As we
discussed in our meeting, we are looking at incorporating a community
yard sale with the event this year.

We were thrilled to host Live Baltimores City Living Starts Here event in
March. We had the privilege to greet over 200 people who signed up to
attend the event at Faith Community Church and take a tour of
Waltherson, Its wonderful to see so much interest from homebuyers for
our neighborhood.

In business news, development continues to move forward in SoHa Union.

It wont be long before Zekes Coffee moves a block up the road closer to our neighborhood. Meanwhile, to the north, Batch
Bake shop should be open in the next month or two at the location of the former Hamilton Bakery.

Light City Baltimore is coming to the neighborhood in April. Were exited for the April 1st
unveiling at 4500 Harford Road and Picture by Andy Weaver of Maggie's Farm
lights could be seen popping up
around the neighborhood already in late
March.

On March 28th there was an important

community meeting about the replacement
of the Harford Road bridge in Herring Run
Park. They are hoping to get the bridge replacement started by December 2017
but it might be pushed back again into 2018. Harford Road will be closed at Herring
Run for 36 months during the construction.

Lastly, the new zoning code for Baltimore City will go into effect this year. The
Harford Road Community Review Panel has been hard at work reviewing the Lauraville Urban Renewal plan with the intent to
update it to bring it in line with the new zoning code. Walthrson has representation in that group and we also expect to work
with the business district and our neighbors to review the Hamilton Urban Renewal plan. We plan to have a presentation on
these efforts at our May community meeting and look forward to hearing your input on changes to these important plans.

Kind Regards,
Robert J. Walshe, WIA president

City Living Starts Here in Waltherson!

We were thrilled that Live Baltimore choose to highlight the Waltherson neighborhood on Saturday,
March 25th for their city living starts here event! We had a fantastic turnout with over 200 people
registered to take a tour of Waltherson, see available housing in the neighborhood, and learn about the
incentives and perks of living here. A huge thanks to Jessica, Anjelica, Tanisha, and Frank for your
volunteering to help man our table and meet potential new neighbors and talk about everything to love
about living here.

Hamilton Gallery (5502 Harford Road)

Hamilton Gallery

Hamilton Arts Collective is

pleased to present the exhibition

TJ Bates:
Geometric Abstraction -
presented in Gallery I

TJ Bates creates geometric works

that use a variety of colors,
stencils, and texture, which give
the viewer levels and depths of
the work. Using mediums such as
acrylic paint, spray paint, and air
brush, TJ creates dynamic
paintings that push and pull with contrast, color, and geometry. His work will be shown under a variable
chromatic light display for viewing with provided 3D glasses to observe the moving and jumping colors
and shapes in the artwork.

Hamilton Gallery welcomes all guests and neighbors to join us in enjoying our neighborhood and our
city.

NECOP Northeast Citizens on Patrol

In Northeast Baltimore we have a district wide Citizens on Patrol program called NECOP. The reasoning behind the
COP program is that regular neighborhood patrols can make criminals feel uncomfortable and drive them out of
our neighborhood. Communities with regular NECOP patrols, such as the North Harford neighborhood, also see
significantly less crime than communities with inactive patrols.

Participants meet at the Northeast Police station at 1900 Argonne Drive near Morgan State and an officer will give
you a direct number to keep them in contact with the Police. You would then proceed to patrol the neighborhood
in your car. Patrols normally go out each Thursday and Friday from about 7:30 - 10:30. Anyone interested in the
Citizens on Patrol program, please contact Rob at Robert.walshe@gmail.com
