1. Radu rides his bicycle from A to B along 800 m. then he moves back to the C along 400 m.

Then
travel from A to C needs 5 minutes. Determine average velocity and average speed of Badu from
A to C if his speed at any time relatively constant.

Solution
Given : XAB = 800 M
XBC = 400 m
T = 300 s
Asked : average velocity =?
Average speed = ..?

Answer :
X ABX BC 800400
Average velocity = =
t 300

= 1.33 m/s
X AB + X BC 800+ 400
Average speed = =
t 300

= 4 m/s
So, the average velocity of Badu to travel from A to C is1.33 m/s and his average speed is 4 m/s

2. A person rides a motorcycle from rest condition. Along the straight line track, the velocity v as a
function of time t is given in table 1.1. Based on the table determine:
a. Draw a graph between velocity vs time,
b. Average acceleration in the first 4 seconds,
c. Average acceleration between t=2 seconds to t= 6 seconds

Table.1.1
t (s) 0 2 4 6 8
v (m/s) 0 4 6 12 15

Solution

3. Andi rides a motorcycle with initial velocity is 36 km/hour. Then his velocity decreases gradually
without the change of the direction to 19 km/hour in 5 seconds. Calculate the average
deceleration.
Solution :
Given : v1 = 36 km/hour = 10 m/s
t1 = 5 seconds
v2 = 18 km/hour = 5 m/s
asked: a =?

Answer:
v 2v1 510
a = = =1 m/s 2
t2 5

Therefore the deceleration is 1 m/s 2

4. A food salesman moved in straight line along Pemuda road. Initially, he was 20 m west side the
traffic light. 16 seconds after moved in constant velocity, he reached 100 m in the west direction
of the traffic light.
Determine :
a. Velocity of the salesman,
b. The distance he reached during 16 seconds
Solution:
Given: so = 200 m
s1 = 100 m
t1 = 16 s
asked: a. v=?
b. s1 = .?
Answer:
s s1s 0 1002 0
a. v= = = =5 m/s
t t 16

b. s1 = s 1s0 =10020 = 80 m
5. A minibus moves with an initial velocity of 20 m/s. after 10 seconds, its velocity changes to 40
m/s. calculate its average acceleration.
Answer:
v1 = 20 m/s
v2 = 40 m/s
t = 10 s
v 2v1 402 0
a = = =2 m/s2
t 10

6. A van travels with velocity of 27 km/hours. Then, it is a accelerated with acceleration of

2 m/s2 . Calculate the velocity
Answer:
v0 = 27 km/hour=7.5 m/s
a = 2 m/s2

v =v 0 +a t

= 7.5 m+ 2 m/s2 + 5 s
= 17.5 m/s
7. A coconut falls from the height of 20 m. How long does it take to reach the ground? And what is
its velocity before hits the ground?

Answer :

h = 20 m ; g = 10 m/s2

1
a. h = 2 gt2

2h
t= g
=
2(20)
10
=2 s

b. v = g t
=(10 m/s2 )(2 s)
= 20 m/s

8. an iron ball is fired vertically upward from the ground with a velocity of 10 m/s. how long does it
take to reach its maximum height?
Answer:
20 m/ s
t= 10 m/ s2
=2s
Hence, the maximum height is

=( 20 m/s )(2s) - 2 ( 10m/s2) (2s)2

= 20 m
A pencil experience a free fall from a table with initial height of 1.25 m above the floor.
Determine the acceleration when reaching the flor

Answer
vt = 2 gh

b. Maximum position of the ball

Solution :

Given : vo = 10 m/s h = 4 m
g = 10 m/s2
Asked : vt= ?

a. The velocity at the height of 4 m

vt2 = vo2- 2gh
= 100-2 x 10 x 4
=2 5 m/s
2
v0 100
b. hmax = 2g = 20 =5 m

10. A diver jumpers from a diving board at the height of 8 m with initial velocity of 6 m/s. if g = 10
m/s2, determine the velocity as the driver reaches the water.
Answer:
h= 8 m, vo = 6 m/s g = 10 m/s2

The above problem can be solved by using downward vertical motion

vt2 = vo2+ 2gh

= (6m/s)2 + 2x 10 x 8
= 196
= 14 m/s
