BACKGROUND AND PROBLEMS ANALYSIS

Since May 14, 2014. Serbia has been fighting catastrophic floods
that have endangered a large number of inhabitants, damaged
houses, road and energy infrastructure, and destroyed livestock and
crops, primarily in the west of the country. Flooding has also caused
enormous damage in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, which
has seen casualties as well, and in Croatia. The governments of the
Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Republika Srpska decided to
proclaim May 20 a Day of Mourning in their respective entities, for
the people who lost their lives in the flooding in Bosnia.

In Croatia, which is also struggling with unprecedented floods, 2

people have lost their lives and certain villages and towns along the
Sava River have been evacuated.

The floods, caused by heavy rainfall during which three months

worth of water fell over the course of a few days, have hit central
Balkans western Serbia, eastern Bosnia and the east of Croatia.

The rain, which fell non-stop for three days from May 13, mostly
stopped during the weekend, but the danger still hasnt passed. Apart
from the floods, danger is also posed by landslides, groundwater and
the warm weather that followed, due to possible infections. In
Bosnia, another danger are areas with leftover mines placed during
the 1992-1995 war, which are now threatened by the floods and
landslides.
Minister of Agriculture Snezana Bogosavljevi-Bokovi said the
floods had severely damaged the countrys agriculture, as hundreds
4
of thousands of hectares of land and numerous livestock farms had
been destroyed.

According to Serbian Chamber of Commerce data, around 11% of

companies and entrepreneurship shops in Serbia are located in the
area affected by the floods. Most of the firms operate in trade,
agricultural and food industry and construction.

Based on the advise of Ecological Club Grmech (Ekoloki klub

Grme, adresa: Bosanski Petrovac 77250, Selo Krnja Jela bb,
FBiH, ID broj:4263468860002, rjeenje br:07-05-6437-UP-1/06,

sensitization meeting and assessment were dome to ascertain the
level of commitment and the capacity of project executive and
participants as well as the needs of the participants from the above
certain findings, suggestions and agreement were reached.

- The executive agreed that Center for Christian Healing prayer

BETHLEHEM would work in collaboration with Ecological
Club Grmech in the implementation of the project.
- Livestock (small ruminants), which were owned by
participants, have been completely looted by the rebels during
the flood.
- There is no livestock available within the communities.
- Access to livestock is limited because of lack of funds.

It is in the view of this background that the Center for Christian

Healing prayer BETHLEHEM in collaboration with Ecological
Club Grmech would intervene to alleviate the communities dire
needs.

The project package also serves as a means of replacement of lost

livestock. Since the farm families lack funds and alternative
resources to purchase them, this will give back livestock to the
participants who have lost everything in life.

INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY

Center for Christian Healing prayer BETHLEHEM has carried out

similar project in the past in the operational communities. There was
a livestock bank project, which involved over 35 cows, 45 pigs, 42
goats and 24 sheep but was destroyed by the war.

The use of Ecological Club Grmech as supervising agency and the

training of the executive and animators of Center for Christian
Healing prayer BETHLEHEM will ensure an effective and efficient

8
delivery system. The capacity of the institution will develop to a
high level to be able to handle management of the people.

PROJECT FEASIBILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY

The people in the operational communities are peasent farmers who

have been involved in all their lives in livestock (cows, goats, sheep
and pigs). The technology is not new, it part of the way of life of the
people.

The people are familiar with the raising of cows, goats, sheep and
pigs and the breeds that would be selected and bought are suited to
the areas.

Also cows, goats, sheep and pigs are easy to raise involving little or
no cost and use of locally available materials for food and housing
which ensures continuity needs external support.
