LEARNING OBJECTIVES

www.mibeat.co

An Innovation by Cardea Labs (ISO 13485:2003 and ISO 9001:2008 Certified Company)
The Advantage called miBEAT:

miBEAT is an educational tool which enables students to learn and implement all the necessary
concepts required to design their own wireless and portable high definition, medical-grade data
acquisition system over smart phones and PCs. miBEAT comes with a CE certification and is clinically
validated in top research labs and research institutions which helps students gain the confidence to
develop a medical device without any dependencies on expensive data acquisition boards and their
respective softwares.

miBEAT can be easily configured to get various types of biomedical signals such as ECG, EMG, EOG
among others. miBEAT also allows integration of your own designed analog front end to easily plot
the signals over smart phones. By learning a plethora of many highly guarded industry trade secrets,
miBEAT helps students understand and develop 2 electrode based systems (instead of the
conventional 3 electrode system) to obtain high definition signals even in the noisiest of
environment.

miBEAT is developed to help students quickly accelerate from pen and paper concepts to their
practical implementation thereby having a complete learning experience. miBEAT can be
incorporated directly into laboratories curriculum that teach students medical electronics,
biomedical instrumentation, embedded systems, signal processing and Android application
development.

miBEAT bundles three integral reference books written by the contributions of the Professors from
Harvard University, Massachusetts Medical School, Stanford University and IIT Delhi.

miBEAT is supported by the Department of Biotechnology (GOI), Department of Scientific and Industrial
Research (DSIR GOI) and by FITT IIT Delhi. The clinical validation has been carried out at AIIMS, New Delhi.
1) Step by Step Instructions to Develop miBEAT

For first timers or for experts, this book features all the steps necessary to build miBEAT

from the ground up by covering the details of the components along with the photographs of

every stage of development. This book is also referred to understand and debug errors (if

any).
2) Experiments, Projects, Prototypes and Products (Evolving List) using miBEAT

This book features many unique innovative ideas resulting in deep involvement and engagement of

students to develop new products and solutions. Eg includes - Design a running game whose difficulty

level adapts to Heart Rate while exercising. This book is also being used by majority of the

Universities to redesign/implement miBEAT in their curriculum involving Biomedical

Instrumentation and Biomedical Signal Processing.

Learning outcome of miBEAT are as follows:

A. Using miBEAT hardware (CE certified opens-source open-hardware board)

1) Designing and implementation of Power supply for portable wearable devices

2) Designing and implementation of Analog Front End amplifiers
3) Designing and implementation of Active analog Filters
4) Designing and implementation of 2 electrode versus 3 electrode system
5) System design for suppressing baseline wander
6) Designing Real-time Digital Filters in MATLAB
