with
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder is an umbrella term describing the range of cognitive,
behavioral, and physical effects associated with prenatal alcohol exposure. Estimates are
that 40,000 children are born each year in the U.S. with an FASD more than Spina Bifida,
Down Syndrome, Childhood Cancers, and Juvenile Diabetes combined; 94% of individuals
with an FASD have a mental health condition.

Many individuals with an FASD have not been diagnosed. Instead, diagnoses have included a
variety of alphabet soup diagnoses, such as ADHD, OCD, ODD, emotionally disturbed, and
mood disorder. If normal treatment methods and medications have not helped your child,
consider the possibility of prenatal alcohol exposure as the underlying reason for your childs
challenging behaviors.
