The meeting was called to order by Jessica Cufaro at 10:30 hrs.
In attendance Jessica Cufaro, Lauren Keeping, Jennifer Horton, Parisa Gorjizadeh, and Natasha Grau Approval of Minutes The minutes were read from the prior weekly meeting and approved. Introductions All members and guests of the meeting were introduced with their occupations stated. Document Creation Natasha spoke of how to create a proper inter-office memo and that it is generally used to make announcements, advise of policy change, or is a reminder. It was explained that a memo is generally a word document and must state its purpose, and if a meeting is to take place, when and where. If it is a policy change, it must state the date the change is taking effect. Natasha explained that a memo must include someone to contact for questions or someone to RSVP to and that it is to be professional and to the point. Professional Attire in the Workplace Lauren explained what the proper dress code is for her work position, which is Business Casual, allowing employees to wear blouses, button-up shirts and dress pants. She explained that Fridays are dress-down days where jeans are allowed. It was explained that proper skirt length is just above the knee and that all footwear should be close-toed. Lauren expressed the importance of wearing work-safe jewellery as well. Creating an ePortfolio Jennifer stated that Weebly is an excellent tool to create an e-portfolio for employers to review accomplishments and resumes of potential employees. She explained that a person can upload documents, pictures and have explanations for those items as well as having different pages to keep the e-portfolio organized. Academic Integrity / Honesty Parisa used examples from her work-place as a sales officer to give light to proper honesty in a workplace setting where the only accountability is a persons word. In a work environment with over 20 other employees, honesty among them is the best way to keep sales up and to ensure the proper employee received a commission. Career Opportunities in the Office Administration field Jessica reported that opportunities are available for employment through Durham College, which hires hundreds of individuals, including students. The college provides programs in Office Administration, such as the executive, medical, legal, real estate and general programs to assist in achieving administrative positions. It was also stated that the next job fair is on March 8, 2017. Next Meeting Wednesday, March 08, 2017 at 10:30 hrs Memo will be sent out prior with topics. Meeting adjourn was made at 11:30 hrs and was passed unanimously.
