OFAD Meeting
Durham College, Whitby Campus
March 1, 2017 @ 10:30 hrs

The meeting was called to order by Jessica Cufaro at 10:30 hrs.

In attendance
Jessica Cufaro, Lauren Keeping, Jennifer Horton, Parisa Gorjizadeh, and Natasha Grau
Approval of Minutes
The minutes were read from the prior weekly meeting and approved.
Introductions
All members and guests of the meeting were introduced with their occupations stated.
Document Creation
Natasha spoke of how to create a proper inter-office memo and that it is generally used
to make announcements, advise of policy change, or is a reminder. It was explained
that a memo is generally a word document and must state its purpose, and if a meeting
is to take place, when and where. If it is a policy change, it must state the date the
change is taking effect. Natasha explained that a memo must include someone to
contact for questions or someone to RSVP to and that it is to be professional and to the
point.
Professional Attire in the Workplace
Lauren explained what the proper dress code is for her work position, which is Business
Casual, allowing employees to wear blouses, button-up shirts and dress pants. She
explained that Fridays are dress-down days where jeans are allowed. It was explained
that proper skirt length is just above the knee and that all footwear should be close-toed.
Lauren expressed the importance of wearing work-safe jewellery as well.
Creating an ePortfolio
Jennifer stated that Weebly is an excellent tool to create an e-portfolio for employers to
review accomplishments and resumes of potential employees. She explained that a
person can upload documents, pictures and have explanations for those items as well
as having different pages to keep the e-portfolio organized.
Academic Integrity / Honesty
Parisa used examples from her work-place as a sales officer to give light to proper
honesty in a workplace setting where the only accountability is a persons word. In a
work environment with over 20 other employees, honesty among them is the best way
to keep sales up and to ensure the proper employee received a commission.
Career Opportunities in the Office Administration field
Jessica reported that opportunities are available for employment through Durham
College, which hires hundreds of individuals, including students. The college provides
programs in Office Administration, such as the executive, medical, legal, real estate and
general programs to assist in achieving administrative positions. It was also stated that
the next job fair is on March 8, 2017.
