4.4 DEEP FOUNDATION DESIGN FOR F1

4.4.1 LOADING

4.4.1.1 DEAD LOAD (D)

Equipment Load ( DE )

- Weight of Equipment : W = 7200.00 = 7,200 kg

(Include container 2 x 20ft)
- Skid : Sk = - kg = - kg
= 7,200 kg
- Equipment Load : We = ( W + Sk ) x 1.2 = 8,640 kg
(Contingency factor = 20 %)
Thus : DE = We = 8,640 kg

Uniform load Input for Staad Pro Qde = 8,640 / (4.88 x 6.10 ) = 290.7 kg/m2
= 2.91 kN/m2
Foundation Load ( DS )

- Pile cap : Wf1 = { 0.6x0.6x0.60 x9 } x 2500 = 4,860 kg

- Beam : Wf2 = { 0.30x0.40x26.8 } x 2500 = 8,046 kg

- Foundation load : DS = Wf1 + Wf2 = 12,906 kg

Total dead load: D = DE + DS = 21,546 kg

4.4.1.2 OPERATING LOAD ( F )

- Operating Load F
= Operating Load
= 7200.00 = 7,200 kg
F (netto) = (F - W) x 1.2 = - kg
Note : Operating load is not governed compared to TL, so no need to be analyzed.

4.4.1.3 LIVE LOAD ( LL )

- Live Load LL = 250 kg/m2 x 4.88 x 6.10 = 7,431 kg

(Live load )
LL = 7,431 kg

Uniform load Input for Staad Pro Qtl = 7,431 / (4.88 x 6.10 ) = 250.0 kg/m2
= 2.50 kN/m2

4.4.1.4 WIND LOAD ( W )

Basic wind speed : 3-second gust speed at 33 ft (10 m) above the ground in exposure C and
and associated with annual probability of 0.02 of being equaled or exceeded (ASCE 7-93 sect. 6.2)
According to Design Basis Sect. 5.8 wind speed for design as followed
V = Wind velocity for operating = 90.00 km/hours
= 25.00 m/second
Wind velocity for storm (10 m above sea level) = 140.40 km/hours
= 39.00 m/second

Wind speed at z above sea level (API RP 2E), where z= 6.50 m = 21.33 ft

u (z, t) = U(z) x [1-0.41 x Iu (z) x Ln (t/to)] = 181.11 ft/s ( = 55.20 m/s )

Where :
U(z) = 1 hour wind speed at level z
= Uo x [ 1 + C x Ln (z/32.8) ] = 119.69 ft/s

C = 5.73 x 10-2 x (1+ 0.0457 x Uo) 1/2 = 0.15

Iu (z) = turbulence intensity at level z

= 0.06 x (1 + 0.0131 x Uo) x (z/32.8)-0.22 = 0.18

Uo = 1 hour mean wind speed at 32.8 ft.

= 39.00 m/s =( 127.95 ft/s )

to = 3600 second
t = 3 second

qs = V / 16
Wind pressure for operating = 39.06 kg/m2
Wind pressure for storm = 190.46 kg/m2
Ce = combine height coefficient = 1.06
Cq = pressure coefficient = 0.8
( Table No.16-H - UBC)
Cpa = coefficient = 1.5

Iw = importance factor Table No.23-L = 1.15

( Table No.16-K - UBC 1997 )
Wind pressure P = Ce x Cq x qs x Cpa x Iw
For operating = 57.14 kg/m2
For storm = 278.61 kg/m2
Wind Force total W TOT = P x Af
For operating = 905.66 kg
For storm = 4,415.80 kg
where Af = OD x L = 15.85 m2
OD = 2.6 m ( Outside dimension)
Lv = 6.1 m (lenght of vessel)

- Horizontal load : Hw = max (W TOT) = 4,415.80 kg

Note : Wind load is not governed compared to seismic load in this case, so no need to be analyzed.

4.4.1.5 SEISMIC LOAD (E)

According to Design Basis Sect. 6.3 seismicity for design as followed
3/4
Period of vibration T = Ct x hn = 0.08 sec
where :
Ct = Numerical coefficient = 0.035
(for steel structure, page 2-14 - UBC 1997)
Cv = Seismic coefficient = 1.536 see pg. F-6 in attach.

(for SE & Z, Table 16-R-UBC1997)

Ca = Seismic coefficient = 0.430 see pg. F-5 in attach.

(for SE & Z, Table 16-Q-UBC1997)

hn = Total height = 3.12 ft see Pipeline skid (Attachment E)

Z = Ground acceleration = 0.4 g

(Table 16-I-UBC 1997)
I = Importance factor (Table 16-K-UBC) = 1.25
R = Numerical coefficient (Table 16-P-UBC) = 2.2 see pg. F-5 in attach.
W = Total seismic dead load defined UBC = 21,546.00 kg
in section 1630 1.1 ( DE )

Design base shear : V = Cv x I = 229,031.74 kg

W
RxT
Max. base shear : Vmax = 2.5 Ca x I W = 13,160.20 kg
R
Min. base shear : Vmin = 0.11 Ca x I x W = 1,273.91 kg

Check: Vmin < V < Vmax

1,273.91 kg < 229,031.74 kg > 13,160.20 kg Not Governed!
Therefore, design base shear is :
V = Vmax = 13,160.20 kg

- Seismic load : E = V = 13,160.20 kg

4.4.1.6 DIFFERENTIAL SETTLEMENT (T)

Foundation is placed on friction piles and then settlement and posibility of differential settlement should
be into account. Differential settlement is assumed that a pile is failured to support system.
Deflection due to failured piles, def = 1.75 mm
(see output result of failured pile analysis by staad pro Attachment B1)

Differential settlement should be not larger than settlement happening. def < total settlemen
7.44 mm

So, differential settlement is smaller value between deflection due to failured pile and total settlement

Differential settlement diff = 1.75 mm

Ilustration : Condition after settlement

total settlemen = 7.44 mm

diff = Differential settlement

More fixed Excessive More fixed This is also meaning deflection due to
Settlement failured support (or no support)

resistance. In this case an approximation of the location of the balance, or neutral, point
can be made.
3. Lowering of the groundwater table with resulting ground subsidence.
4. Pile-driving (and load-test) operations that produce negative stresses in the upper shaft
when the load is released and the pile shaft expands upward. The resulting slip and nega-
tive skin resistance must be balanced by a positive skin resistance in the lower shaft and/or
point load [Vesic (1977)].

For negative skin resistance forces to develop significantly, a portion of the pile must be
fixed against vertical movement, such as the point being on rock or the lower part being
in a dense sand. If the entire pile moves down with the consolidation effect no negative skin
resistance forces develop. For a single pile the negative skin resistance force can be estimated
as follows:

1. For cohesive fill overlying cohesionless soils as in Fig. \S-9a:

Pnf = ( ' a'p'qKdz (18-15)

Jo
where a' = coefficient relating the effective lateral pressure qK to the shearing resistance
about the pile perimeter; a' = tanS where S = 0.5 to 0.9$; su is replaced by
qK as this is somewhat of a drained case
p' = pile perimeter
K = lateral earth-pressure coefficient; use K = K0 = 1 - sin </>
q = effective overburden pressure at any depth z

Equation (18-12) could be written using the equivalent of fs from any of Eqs. (16-14) to
obtain the /3 method, which may be more reliable than the a method of Eq. (18-13) [see
Indraratna et al. (1992)]. That is,
(Lf
Pnf = rfiqdz
Jo
where r = reduction factor ranging from about 0.5 to 1.0.
2. For cohesive soil underlying cohesionless fill take the origin of coordinates at the bottom
of the fill (see Fig. 18-96):

Pnf = a'p'qKdz (18-16)

Jo
Below the neutral point (refer to Fig. 18-10), if there is one, positive friction is developed
to the bottom of effective pile length L:
fL
PPf = a'2p'qKdz + Pnp (18-17)

where Pnp = amount of negative skin resistance carried by the point where point-bearing
piles are used and other terms as previously defined.
