Socialized Healthcare - term used to describe and discuss systems of


universal healthcare
Universal Healthcare - addresses a healthcare system which provides
healthcare and financial protection to every citizen of a specific country.
Universal Healthcare's Purpose

Provide a specified health care package which will be of benefit to every


member of the society
Improve the aim of providing financial risk protection
Improves health outcomes
Improves access to health services
People dont pay for it
Universal Healthcare
What's needed to achieve it?
A strong, efficient, well-run health system
Affordability
Ability of essential medicines and technologies
Well trained, motivated health workers
Actions to address social determining factors

How is this financed?


The system would collect large pools of
prepaid funds
Pay through taxations, and/or obligatory
assigned contributions for health insurance

Facilities are owned and operated by private sector business
In 2014, 48 percent of U.S. health care spending came from private funds, with 28
percent coming from households and 20 percent coming from private businesses
About 15% percent of people are uninsured in the US, which means a lot of people don't
care that they need.
Also have medicare and we spent 536 billion dollars on medicare in 2013

Free once they pay taxes
Dentistry and out patient drugs (co-pay over seven and a half pounds)
Inpatient drugs are still free
Only 6% of prescription are actually full price in the UK
Public expenditures cover 80% of all healthcare spending
Three quarters come from general taxes and most is paid by payroll tax
Over-the-counter drugs & other medical products account for another 10%
The rest is private hospitals for elective procedures
