APPLICATION PROCESS

Choose your programme(major)

Choose a degree programme(major) you wish to take.

You need to satisfy your chosen degrees entry requirements in all sections.

Secure a faculty adviser


3 You need to secure a faculty adviser prior to submitting your application. Contact a
professor and consult your admission and research in advance. (See page 7 for the details)

Pay your application fee

Pay your application fee of US$50 (Overseas remittance) or KRW 50,000 (Domestic remittance).

Submit your application online


Submit your application at Study In Korea website.
(http://www.studyinkorea.go.kr > Sign-up > Overseas Study Application >
University of Ulsan(UOU) > Master/PhD/Combined)

Choose UOU and your degree programme and fill out the application.
You also need to upload the supporting documents as below.
a) Photo
b) Passport Copy

d) Bachelor Course Transcript
e) Master Course Transcript (only for PhD course applicants)
f) Language Certificate
g) Recommendation Letter (needs to be submitted to UOU Admission Officer via
email (seanpark@ulsan.ac.kr) directly from a professor of your previous degree
course or a supervisor in case you have work experience. Do not upload the
letter to the system by yourself)
h) Application Fee Receipt
* Any documents not in Korean or English should be submitted with translation.

We will assess your application


The assessment is processed based on your academic achievement and purpose
statement.

An interview (skype/phone or in-person) may be required additionally.
Once you have submitted an application with the necessary documentation, it should
take around 3~4 weeks for UOU to assess your application.

We will send you an offer letter


We will notify you of the outcome of your application via email. If your application

is successful, you will receive a complete admission offer if everything is fine or a
conditional admission offer if more steps are required.

Accept your offer
If you receive a complete admission offer, you can accept it by paying the tuition and
fees and submitting the following documents by post. (No electronic copies accepted)
a) Signed Acceptance Letter (Enclosed in the Admission Offer)
b) (Expected) Bachelor Degree with Governmental Verification(*1)
c) (Expected) Master Degree with Governmental Verification(*1) (only for PhD course applicants)
8 d) Bachelor Course Transcript with Notarisation
e) Master Course Transcript with Notarisation (only for PhD course applicants)
f) Tuition and Fees Payment Advice (receipt)
g) Financial Status Certificate (bank statement or sponsorship certificate for USD 18,000)
h) Family Relationship Certificate or Birth Certificate with Notarisation
i) Household Register and National ID Copy (only for Chinese applicants)
* Any documents not in Korean or English should be submitted with translation.

We will process your visa application


Once your offer acceptance process is finished as above, we will issue a Certificate of
Admission (CoA) and other required documents for a visa application and send them
to you via express courier service such as DHL or EMS.
You are advised to visit Korean Embassy or Consulate General to apply for a student
(D-2) visa. (Check the required documents for a visa application with Korean Embassy or
Consulate General in advance as they may vary depending on the country and region)

Visa issuance belongs in the jurisdiction of Korean Embassy or Consulate General,
thus an admission offer does not guarantee a visa issuance. If your visa is rejected,
the admission will be canceled accordingly.
* If you currently hold a valid Korean visa, you would need to change your visa to
a student (D-2) visa at Ulsan Immigration Office. Also, an admission offer does not
guarantee the visa status change, thus the admission will be canceled if your visa
status change request is rejected by Ulsan Immigration Office)

(*1) Governmental Verification should be done through one of the following ways.
a. Apostille Verification
b. Korean Consul Verification of the country at which the school is located
c. Verification from Foreign Affairs/Education Authority of the country at which the school is located
d. Consul Verification from Embassy of the country at which the school is located in Korea

* Applicants graduated from a Chinese 4-year college may submit official report of Graduation
Certificate issued by CDGDC(China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development
Center; www.cdgdc.edu.cn)

* PhD course applicants who received their Master degree from Korean universities may
submit the Bachelor degree and transcript copy without any further verification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Section Details
Should meet one of the below conditions;
a) You and both your parents must hold foreign citizenship.
* Not eligible If you or any of your parents hold Korean dual-citizenship.
Nationality
* Taiwanese applicants are eligible even if one of the parents holds Korean citizenship
Requirement
b) You must hold a foreign citizenship (not Korean dual-citizenship) and must
have completed or expect to complete all your primary, secondary and
tertiary education fully outside of Korea
[Master or Combined(Master & PhD) Course]
You must have received or expect to receive a Bachelor degree or an equivalent qualification.
[PhD Course]
You must have received or expect to receive a Master degree or an equivalent qualification.

Academic * Contact UOU Admission Officer to check if your previous study can be recognised.
Requirement * If you have not yet received an official degree at the time of application, you
need to submit an expected graduation certificate instead, and then submit the
degree certificate with Governmental Verification before 1 September 2017.
Otherwise, your admission and visa will be canceled.
* If you are currently enroled at another university in Korea, you need to drop out of
the school before the enrolment to UOU. Otherwise, the admission will be canceled.
[Korean-medium Programme]
Should meet one of the below conditions;
a) TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) Level 3+ (Level 2+ for Engineering &
Science major applicants, Level 4+ for Korean Language major applicants)
* 53rd TOPIK (16 July 2017) result accepted.
(Submit the 53rd TOPIK registration slip during the application process)
b) Intensive Korean Level 4+ at UOU Korean Language Education Centre (Level 3+ for
Engineering & Science major applicants, Level 5+ for Korean Language major applicants)
* UOU Intensive Korean Course result for Summer 2017 session accepted
(Submit Level 4 Enrolment Certificate of Summer 2017 during application process)
c) Medium of Instruction (Korean) certificate of Bachelor or Master degree course
Language [English-medium Programme]
Requirement If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence that your English
language ability meets our requirements. (Should meet one of the below conditions)
a) TOEFL 71+ (TOEFL 56+ for Engineering & Science major applicants)
b) IELTS 5.5+ (IELTS 4.5+ for Engineering & Science major applicants)
c) TOEIC 700+ (TOEIC 500+ for Engineering & Science major applicants)
d) Medium of Instruction (English) certificate of Bachelor or Master degree course
* Countries in which English is the first language: Australia, Canada, Ireland,
New Zealand, South Africa, UK, USA

* Language certificates issued within 2 years from the application deadline accepted.
* TOPIK Level 4 required for graduation for students in the Korean-medium programme and
TOPIK Level 3 or completion of 100-hour Korean language course for English-medium programme.

<Intensive Korean Language Course (20 or 40 weeks) -> UOU Postgraduate Programme>

Study with UOU Korean Language Education Centre to meet the Korean language entry
requirements to start your UOU degree. UOU Korean Language Education Centre offers
an intensive Korean language programme which covers academic Korean, general Korean
and professional Korean. Programme is developed and delivered by highly qualified and
experienced teachers who are specialists in teaching Korean especially to international
students. They will help you achieve the language skills needed for your academic and

previous semesters GPA is over 3.00 out of 4.50)
* Applicants who are currently employed in Korea with working visa are not eligible for this tuition
scholarship. (Industry scholarship(10% of Tuition off) applies instead)
* Entrance fee applies to all students.

Research Assistantship(RA) Stipend


RA stipend is granted based on the applicants research competency, and the final decision
is made by each professor (faculty adviser). Consult with a professor (faculty adviser) for
the details. RA stipend amount varies depending on the professor, but the average amount is
around USD 500 per month for Master and USD 1,000 for PhD course students.
