We invite you to participate in the annual exercise of rating of Indian Engineering

Institutions

THE CONTEXT

Over the last five years, Careers360 has been critically looking at the performance of
Engineering Institutes in India. Into its sixth edition, the rating and the different outcomes as
part of the evaluation exercise has been gaining wide acclaim from the community.

PROCESS

It will be fair to characterize Careers360: Best Engineering Institutions 2016 methodology

as one which is greatly driven by quantifiable parameters. A comprehensive exercise is
undertaken to list out all the engineering colleges and autonomous institutes that offer
engineering programme (BE/B.Tech or equivalent) in India. We take into account all the 3200+
engineering institutes in the country and identify the top 20% on the basis of two factors:
student preferences as analyzed from the cut-off score/ rank in the admission test and the data
collated as per their engagement on the Careers360 portal. The first source is crucial,
however, the second assumes much significance as the student traffic on the website is
phenomenal which not only gives very interesting insights but introduces new institutes, and

information. We make use of the data/ information available publicly or through the Right to
Information Act. We also invite entries from institutions to participate in the rating process (see
below).

METHODOLOGY

Our methodology is based on a preliminary search for publications and citations in international
databases such as Thomson Reuters Web of Science and Elseviers Scopus; intellectual
property rights (IPR) search at the Indian Patent Office database. Accreditations score is
sourced from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the National Board of
Accreditation (NBA). Key information like number of faculty, students enrolled, gender diversity,
research scholars, number of incubation units, and so on are acquired from respective institutes
as well as reports uploaded on their websites.

SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS

Research Ranking
Based on both aggregate number of papers published, per faculty productivity, citation
and h-Index, we will identify and rank the best research-oriented engineering institutes in
the country.
Rating of Engineering Institutes
Best engineering institutes based on further analysis across different parameters would
be undertaken and a rating would be presented to the readers.
Star Academics in Engineering Sciences
Based on Elsevier Sciences bibliographic indexing and abstracting database-Scopus we
will look at top performers in specific disciplines from Electronics & Communications to
Physics, grouped under broad subject categories. Top authors from each of the domains
would be selected, based on their publication count and h-index.
Impactful Projects in Engineering institutions
The best research projects coming out of the colleges that have had remarkable social
or economic impact would be presented. A listing of active research groups as well as
available funding opportunities would be an add-on. The projects should be either
completed or in the advanced stage of completion.
Expert Column & Interviews
The issue will comprise the opinions and interviews of Directors, Principals and VCs of
institutions on different aspects of higher education with emphasis on science &
technology.
Great campuses to live in (Life beyond Academics)
A photo feature, this would identify and highlight the most student-friendly, hi-tech, and
compact campuses that make life better for its residents.
