1 - Introduction
MXL Plug and Play Kit for Yamaha R1/R6 is the dashboard (with built-in data acquisition on
PISTA version) specially engineered for fast and easy installation: you will be able to connect
directly to your bikes ECU with the minimum effort and you will have at a glance (without
installing any additional sensor):

o RPM
o Speed
o Engaged gear (calculated)
o Water temperature
o Intake air temperature
o Oil level
o Fuel level
o Turning light signal
o High beam signal
o Neutral
o Battery charge level

Moreover, thanks to infrared transmitter/receiver, (included into MXL PISTA Kit, optional for
MXL STRADA), you will be able to view and store your laptimes.

MXL (PISTA Kit version) gives you the possibility to manage and store data incoming from 5 extra
freely configurable channels, (ex. shock potentiometer, throttle position sensor, brake pressure
sensor, etc).

3 Plug and Play Kit installation
The MXL Plug and Play Kit for Yamaha R1/R6 was specificatly engineered to guarantee maximum
ease of installation. After removing the stock dashboard, just plug the connectors in as shown in the
following picture, fix the 4 supports by using bracket, washers and screws included and your MXL
will be ready to use.

4 First engine start
MXL for Yamaha R1/R6 must be installed on stock bikes. Once the master switch is turned on,
MXL will automatically recognize and show on the display your ECUs type.

Stock ECU your display will show ECU MODEL STD text to confirm that MXL is in idle
condition.

Once MXL has recognized your ECU, it will show and manage the following default informations.

(*) The YAMAHA_ERR channel is not shown on your display in default configurations. To view
it, you will have to use the configuration function included in Race Studio 2.

5 Calibration and gear calculation
Your MXL is already calibrated and ready to show correctly your engaged gear on your Yamaha
R1/R6. If youre going to change reduction ratio, a new calibration and re-calculation of gears
settings will be required.

6 Configuration
Configuring your MXL is possible ONLY by using Race Studio 2 software (included in the kit) and
by connecting it to your PC (Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista compatible) through the included
USB cable.

to MXL manual Chapter 7 How to install Race Studio 2 and Chapter 7.2 How to configure
MXL using Race Studio 2 software.

7 Channels
Acquired ECU channels in default MXL STRADA/ PISTA configuration are:

Moreover, on MXL Pista:

As told before, these channels may be used for connecting additional sensors (es. shock
potentiometers, throttle position sensors, brake pressure sensors, etc) included in Race Studio 2s
wide database. In case of not included sensors, it is however possible to calibrate them, calculate
calibration curve, import sensors into the database and use them. All by using the Custom Sensor
function.

8 Data download and analysis
When a test session is over, you can download your logged data and save this file in a Race Studio
2 software-integrated database.

The data download function is not available on MXL STRADA.

9 Error codes
Yamaha ECUs offer a diagnostic mode, for checking errors that may occur on your bike. In the
table below you will find error codes and a brief description (channel YAMAHA_ERR):
