Asking our Scottish families about Scottish heroes
and legends - Zara METIN
On the evening of Tuesday, March the 28th, I questioned my
Scottish family about the legendary and important heroes that they learned about throughout their lives as Scottish people, and about what those heroes meant to them. My Scottish Mom, Miss Killgarren decided to answer me explaining that her husband knew nothing and that she was the boss, a pretty funny scene if youd ask me.
She started off by
Robert Burns, whom I already knew about because we studied a couple of his poems and biography in class back in France. She told me that he was a hero because he did massive portraits and stuff like that. My
Scottish mom then told us
about Mary Queen of Scots, and that she was beheaded. Nothing more.
Then quickly moved on to talk about William Wallace who was
at the battle of Bannockburn which made him a hero, and that the fact that he fought for Scotland to keep that Scottish heritage and remain Scottish rather than to be stepped on by England and its culture. And that if it wasnt for William Wallace, the English would have overtaken them. On the other hand, I felt like knowing way more about those Scottish legends than Scottish people.
