Electrical and Computer Engineering graduate program

Personal Statement

My purpose in pursuing studies in Puerto Rico is because I want to be part of the

Electrical and Computer Engineering graduate program at Mayagez, which offers
laboratories, infrastructure, and teachers ii of high level and world-wide prestige in the
area of Power Systems.

My interest in power flow software began when I was pursuing graduate studies in
degree at the Universidad Nacional San Antonio Abad del Cusco.

I participated in research topics related to chargeability rates of a transmission

system. We were investigating issues such as the stability of a power system, and
chargeability limits, using DigSilent Power Factory software. This research was
leaded by magister Jos Wilfredo Callasi and Dr. Ronald Dueas Ponce.

I am currently researching how to manipulate the computational model of DigSilent

Power Factory 15.1 through the programming language Matlab 2013b which has useful
command lines and matrix functions to conveniently modify the calculation processes
and power flow optimization. Matlab command lines communication is done through
".CSV" files. This research is based on the work of PhD Andrei stativai [Stativa - 2012].

My research interest is focused in how to modify the processes of computational

methods that run in DigSilent software. All of these methodologies can be conveniently
adapted to describe all the characteristic phenomena of non-linear systems, and
solving the compensation power flows from unwanted harmonic, and finding
optimum chargeability of a transmission system using techniques based on genetic
algorithms, fuzzy logic, and robust control.

In addition, another research topic is in the stable incorporation of solar, wind and /
or thermal energy in the electricity grid based on an optimal synchronism of the
frequency of these electric generation systems without altering the stability of the
electric network. The novelty of the DigSilent program is that it allows to perform
security analysis as contingency showing different scenarios of operation with real
conditions of overload and energy dispatch.
