Lesson Plan 9-1 Thursday, April 6

Grade/Subject: 9-1 Mathematics

Unit: Circle Geometry
Lesson Duration: 66 Minutes
OUTCOMES FROM ALBERTA PROGRAM OF STUDIES

General Learning Outcomes:

Use direct or indirect measurement to solve problems.

Specific Learning Outcomes:

- Solve problems and justify the solution strategy using circle properties including:
- The perpendicular from the centre of a circle to a chord bisects the chord
- The measure of the central angle is equal to twice the measure of the inscribed angles
subtended by the same arc
- The inscribed angles subtended by the same arc are congruent
- A tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius at the point of tangency.

10.1: Describe the relationship between inscribed angles in a circle; relate the inscribed angle and
central angle subtended by the same arc.
10.2: Describe the relationship between chords and radii of circles
10.3: Relate tangent lines to the radius of the circle.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Students will:
1. Have a chance to show what they know from the previous few days of learning.
2. Once student have completed their assignment, they will then begin working through practice questions in
the textbook to better prepare them for their quiz/test.

ASSESSMENTS

Key Questions:
- Questions will come from the topics that have been covered in class throughout this past week: perpendicular
bisectors and tangents.

Observations:
- When I get the assignment back form the students, I will be looking for their understanding which will
show through their response to the assignment questions.

Written/Performance Assessments:
- Assignment #2

Focus of Inquiry: Assessments:

- At the beginning of the class, I will allow for the students to Observe & Ask:
get settled. I will be talking with them about the assignment
before giving it out. Once the students are ready to begin, I
will be giving the assignment to them. They will have the
class period to work on it.
- If students happen to finish their assignment early, I will be
telling them to work on practice questions from the textbook
to better prepare them for their quiz/test coming up in the
following week.
