0 PIPE SIZING CALCULATION

Water Demand per day

Time Taken to fill Storage Tanks

Q = volumetric flow rate
v = flow velocity (m/s)
n=
Pipe size required - ( ( Q x 4 )/ ( v x ))

Proposed Pipe size (internal diameter )

5.0 CALCULATION OF HEAD LOSSES

5.1 Head Loss due to Height Differences

Total Head Loss, z

5.2 Head Loss due to Lenght of Pipe

Length of Pipe from 'meter position' to the Storage tank
(Type of Pipe used is HDPE )
HAZEN WILLIAMS FORMULA
hf = 10.67x Q1.85/C1.85x d4.87
where:

hf = head loss in meters (water) over the length of pipe

L = length of pipe in meters

Q = volumetric flow rate, m3/s (cubic meters per second)

C = pipe roughness coefficient
d = inside pipe diameter, m (meters)

6.0 DESIGN OF RECTICUATION SYSTEM TAKING INTO FIRE FLOW

Design Flow

Peak Flow = 2.5 x Average Flow

Hydrant Flow = Average Flow + Fire Flow

AVERAGE FLOW + FIRE FLOW

Fire Fighting

For fire fighting the fire flow is taken as 300 gpm or 0.0225 m3/sec.
The design flow adopted in this case is average flow + fire flow
Average flow is 0.015 m3/sec

FRICTION HEAD LOSS CALCULATION USING HAZEN-WILLIAM EQUATION

Friction Loss

The friction loss in pipies shall be calculated using Hazen William Formula

hf = (10.67*L*Q^1.85)/C^1.85*d^4.87)
