Debate:
Debate:
It should be noted that after the cold war began an important de-escalation by the US
government in its fight against the insurgency in Colombia because communism no longer
posed a threat worldwide. That was demonstrated by the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Instead, drugs (the cocaine problem) began to take shape, slowly displacing Doug Stokes'
idea of Contra Insurgency in the Colombian context.
If we analyze the situation better, it can be seen that there are several groups outside the
law, not only the FARC which have acted in similar ways for decades and yet have not
become a military objective of transcendence for the Colombian army and paramilitaries.
Apparently the ELN left unharmed "Plan Colombia" and only the FARC suffered the
consequences of US aid in Colombia
Why not use the same efforts that have been used to combat the FARC also against the
ELN? Does not the ELN enter into the story of the insurgent struggle that the US
government mentions so much? The ELN also destroys oil pipelines and its ideology takes
some elements from Marxism. So what happens?
It is likely that this can only be explained by analyzing the role of Alvaro Uribe in the times
of "Plan Colombia" together with the "Democratic Security Policy" that apparently was
directed towards the extermination of the FARC guerrillas although not Mentions explicitly,
nevertheless the facts give account of this as the army and its paramilitary allies managed to
assassinate hundreds of FARC guerrillas and several of its main leaders.
The "Democratic Security Policy" was nothing more than the expression of hatred and a
plan of revenge of Alvaro Uribe towards the guerrilla that assassinated to his father Alberto
Uribe Sierra 14 of June of 1983, but before putting into practice its famous policy , since its
governorship in Antioquia, which lasted only two years, (1995-1997) began to grow
paramilitary forces, called CONVIVIR that would become the future paramilitaries and one
of Uribe's formulas to defeat the FARC, the Plan Colombia only reinforced the idea of
the former president.
The different guerrillas have now abandoned the ideal of turning the country into a Cuba or
into what was the Soviet Union, these ideas have become outdated and need to be
highlighted. Capitalism triumphed in this country and the guerrillas know it.
