Electrical Principles
Instructions:
Individual assignment contributes 50% of your total marks for this module.
Learning Outcomes
Apply mathematical and software skills to solve electrical and magnetic problems
Communicate knowledge and understanding of the subject matter, results of
simulations and laboratory work orally and through written work
1. Measurement of voltage, current and power for any circuit consisting of combination
of R, L & C elements for sinusoidal excitation using Multisim.
2. Measurement of voltage, current and power for any circuit consisting of combination
of R, L & C elements for D.C. voltage source excitation using Multisim.
3. Measurement of Power factor in R-L and R-C & R-L-C Circuits using Multisim.
4. Source transformation Technique using Multisim.
5. Transient Analysis of R-L series Circuits for step input signal using Multisim.
6. Transient Analysis of R-C series Circuits using step input signal Multisim.
7. Transient Analysis of under damped RLC series Circuit for step input excitation using
multisim.
8. Transient Analysis of over damped-damped RLC series Circuit for step input
excitation using multisim.
9. Transient Analysis of critically damped RLC series Circuit for step input excitation
using multisim.
10. Fourier analysis of magnitude & Phase spectrum for non- sinusoidal input (square
wave, triangular wave) using Multisim.
Marks allocation:
1. Report: 70 MARKS
a) Objective (5 Marks)
You are required to write the objective of your problem.
b) Theoretical details (15 Marks)
You are required to explain the law, its theory, schematic diagram and data given
in detail. Apply the formula for calculation of different parameters and calculate
the theoretical values of different quantities like voltage, current and power etc.
c) Design of simulation Circuit using Multisim (25 Marks)
Design the circuit using Multisim and simulate for desired output for each
experiment. You have to enclose the design circuit for each experiment in soft
copy.
e) Conclusions (5 Marks)
Compare the simulation results with the theoretical values and write down the
conclusion. You are required to make brief note on what you have done in your
work.
f) Formatting (10 Marks)
Formatting should be proper as mentioned in assignment requirement.
2. Demonstration (20 Marks)
You are required to explain any one of the experiment from the list in detail which
will be given to you during lab test and design the same in lab individually, obtain the
output results with respect to theoretical values.
3. Viva-Voce (10 Marks)
After conducting lab test in lab you will be asked question related to the particular
experiment.
ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS
Attach the marking scheme provided at second page after the CSFF.
The report has to be well presented and should be typed. Submission of reports
that are unprofessional in its outlook (dirty, disorganized, inconsistent look,
varying colored paper and size) will not fair well when marks are allocated.
Ensure that the report is printed on standard A4 (210 X 297 mm) sized paper.
Paper weight of 80 grams and above is highly recommended. The report must be
in spiral binding.
The report should have a one (1) margin all around the page as illustrated below:
1 inch 1 inch
1 inch

1 inch 1 inch
Every report must have a front cover. A transparent plastic sheet can be placed in
front of the report to protect the front cover.
Plagiarism is a serious offence and will automatically be awarded zero (0) marks.
All information, figures and diagrams obtained from external sources must be
referenced using the Harvard referencing system accordingly.
The total marks obtained in the assignment will be graded as per the following
grading criteria
