Text 1 for questions number 1 to 4
I am so glad that today is over. So many things have gone wrong. For some
reasons I didnt sleep a wink last night. I was very tired when Mum called me this
morning. I fell asleep again until Mum called me again. That snooze made me late.
I did not have time for breakfast. I was starving as I ran to catch the school bus. I
just missed it. Dad had to ride me to school. He was late for teaching at his school and he
was furious with me. He scolded me for being late.
I arrived at school on time. The teacher asked us to hand in our homework. My
homework was not in my bag. I had forgotten to put it in my bag the night before. I
usually check my bag in the morning. I did not do this because I was late I had to do extra
assignment as a punishment.
After Biology lesson, I did not tie my shoelace properly. I tripped over it. And fell
down the stairs. I hurt my knee and had to have a bandage on it.
What a terrible day! I hope that I have much better one tomorrow.
I really enjoyed my holiday in Australia. Last Sunday I visited a marine park called
Sea World which is at surfers Paradise near Brisbane. Its Australias largest marine park
and I had a wonderful day there.
The first thing I saw was the Oceanorium where you can watch all sorts of sea fish
and animal under water. There were huge turtles, sharks, and a beautiful tropical sea fish.
The most exciting thing was watching a man feeding the sharks. He wore a special diving
suit. Then I watched the performance of sea animals. The saw was in a big outdoor
swimming pool. There were killer whales, dolphins and sea lions, and they did all sort of
fantastic things in the water. One of the girls in the show rode around the pool on the back
of killing whale, and another girl rode underwater on the back of a big turtle. After the saw I
had lunch. There were several big restaurant at the park and I had lunch in a restaurant
that was shape like a ship! Then I watched a wonderful water-ski show which was held on a
lake.
There were lots of other things to do at the park. There was lake cruising, a train
ride, a big water slide, swimming pools, and an incredible roller coaster called the
corkscrew- because it goes three loops upside down. But I wish I had gone on the roller
coaster ride before lunch rather than after it!

I think my first memories started when I was about three or perhaps four years old. I
remember falling from a tree and breaking my arms. I think I was playing in the garden of
the big, old house we lived in. It was in a suburb of London. I can remember starting school
when I was five.
There was a little boy called Thomas in the same class. He used to pull my hair
when the teacher was not looking. One day I hit him on the head with a book and he began
to cry. The teacher was very angry with me. I remember him saying, Little girls dont do
things like that. But since then Thomas never pulled my hair again.

One day in July 2005, I went fishing on Sodus bay. I casted under our own dock with a
rubber worm an BOOM!
A big bass took off to other side of the dock and I was sure the line was going to break
because his pulling was rubbing the line against sharp rocks. Three times I pulled him back
to my side of the dock and three times he got back to the other side of the dock. Finally, I
got him to my side and he was tired.
I knew that this was the biggest bass I had ever seen. I worked him towards me and got
down on my belly, reached down and gripped him. However, I didnt have a good grip at
first and let him down to the water for a few seconds to get a better grip. The next thing I
knew he was swimming away. No! I screamed louder than I ever had. It was the first time I
cried over a fish. What a huge fish. This is true story and a sad one for me.

Once when a lion was asleep, a little mouse began running up and down upon him;
this soon awoke the lion, who placed his huge paw upon him, and open his big jaws to
swallow him. Pardon, O king, cried the little mouse, Forgive me this time, I shall never
forget it; perhaps I may be able to do you a good turn some of these days.
The lion was so tickled at the idea of the mouse being able to help him. Then, he
lifted up his paw and let him go.
Sometime after, the lion was caught in a trap. Some hunters, who wanted to carry
him alive to the King, tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry him
in. Just then, the little mouse happened to pass by and see the sad plight in which the lion
was. The little mouse went up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bounded the
king of the beasts. Soon after the little mouse had finished gnawing away the ropes, he
asked the lion to run away.

After some time, the husband of the rich sister came home and was just going to cut himself a piece of bread. When
he made the first cut into the loaf, out flowed red blood.
When the maid saw that, she was very terrified and told him what his wife had done to the poor widow. After hearing
the maids story, the husband hurried away to help the poor widow and her children. But when he entered the widows room, he
found her praying. She had her two youngest children in her arms and the three eldest were lying dead. He offered her food,
but she refused it and answered, We no longer have a desire for earthly food. God has already satisfied the hunger of the
three of us, and He will listen to our supplications likewise.
After she uttered these words, the two little ones drew their last breath. Five second later, the poor widow sank down

Fungi used to be considered as a part of the plant kingdom, but they are now though to be quite
different.
The main part of the fungus is a mass of tiny thread called mycelium. Fungi live on the other
organic matter in the soil. Fungi are the most important agent in the breakdown of dead plant and
animal material, recycling it so that plants can use the nutrients. Fungi live in damp areas on in water
because they have no method of preventing their fragile threads drying out. They cannot survive dry
atmospheres. There are around 50,000 species of fungi and they include yeast, rusts, smuts, mildews,
mould and mushrooms.
Birds belong to a class of warm blooded vertebrate animals with feather covered bodies. Next to the
mammals, birds are the most important group of land-living vertebrates. All birds have feathers,
although in some types, particularly those that can not fly, the normal structure of the feathers may be
much modified and be downy, woolly, or straw like. The forelimbs of birds are modified into wings. The
bony part of the tail, except in the very earliest fossil birds, is very short, and the visible tail is

composed of feathers only. The teeth are absent except in some fossil forms. As in mammals-the only
other group of warm blooded animal-the circulation is highly perfected so that there is no mixing of
arterial and venous blood, but the arrangement of veins and arteries by which this is accomplished, is
different in the two groups. Birds have keen hearing, although they have no external ears. The sense of
sight also is very keen, but the sense of smell is weak or lacking, except in a small few vultures and
other birds.

The polar bear is a very big white bear. We call it the polar bear because it lives inside the Arctic
Circle near the North Pole. There are no polar bears at the South Pole.
The polar bears live at the North Pole. There is only snow, ice, and water. There is not any land.
These bears are three meters long, and weigh 450 kilos. They can stand up on their back legs because
they have very wide feet. They can use their front legs like arms. The polar bears can swim very well.
They can swim 120 kilometers out into the water. They catch fish and sea animals for food. They go into
the sea when they are afraid.
People like to kill the polar bears for their beautiful white coats. The governments of Canada,
the United States, and Russia say that no one can kill polar bears now. They do not want all of these
beautiful animals to die.
Spiders are not insects. They are arachnids. Arachnids have four pairs of legs but only two body
parts. Insects have three pairs of legs and three body parts. Spiders have two to four pairs of eyes. They
can see extremely well.
Spiders eat small insects such as flies and mosquitoes, and sometime bit people. When a spider
bites insect, it does not kill the insect immediately. Instead a special poison passes through its fangs, and
this poison paralyzed the body to the unlucky insects.
Most spiders make their own homes. They do this with a special substance produced by their
bodies. In the corner of some rooms it is possible to find a spiders web where the spider is waiting for
its next dinner guest.
The increasing employment of Indonesian women workers comes mostly from middle-and-upper-
income families. This is because many of them have got higher education. Today more than half of all
women college graduates are employed, compared to four out often high school graduates, three out
often elementary school graduates, and only two out often among those with less than grade five in
school.

Most of the working girls in the 1980s were unskilled, but today's working women have considerably
more education than those who do not work. Among the working women only three fourths are high
school graduates and less than 10 percent have not been to high school at all. Most well-educated middle
class working women hold white collar or professional jobs. Although many other kinds of work are
offered to college graduated women, clerical work and teaching are mostly preferred. About three fifths
of the girls who are graduated from high schools take clerical jobs.
Water is an important forest product. Forest soils are giant sponges. They soak up rain, so that it
seeps slowly into the ground and stays there. Many towns and cities depend on these forest reservoirs.
Shaded from the sun and sheltered from drying winds, forest streams flow steadily even in dry weather.
But when trees are cut, the soil is exposed and is washed or blown away. Then rains runs off quickly,
causing erosion and floods.
Wildlife is another important forest resource. The forest provides food and shelter for a large
and varied population of birds and animals. Millions of people, picnicking, sightseeing, fishing, hunting,
camping, swimming, and other outdoors activities are becoming more popular each year.

School uniform is special clothes worn by all students of a particular school. The uniform of a
school may differ from others. Why should schools use uniforms? Below are some reasons.
First of all, Notre Dames Department of Sociology produced a study in 1998 concerning school
uniforms. Their findings using 10th grade students showed that uniforms have no direct effect on
substance abuse, behavioral problems or attendance. It also claimed a negative effect on student
achievements for those students considered pro-school.
Secondly, uniform helps to create a strong sense school ethos and a sense of belonging to a
particular community. As such it promotes discipline and helps to drive up academic standards, which is
why a uniform is often adopted by schools which are being reopened with a fresh start after being classified
as failing.
Finally, uniform acts as a social leveler, under which all students are equal in the eyes of the school
and of each other. In institutions without uniform students are often competitive and worry endlessly about
their appearance and the clothes they should wear. Pupils without expensive designer clothes and trainers
may be singled out as social outcasts, or stigmatized as being from poor backgrounds. For these reasons
many parents prefer uniforms as they save them money on buying clothes for school wear. Considering the
findings, schools should implement the uniform as their identity. The government should also publish some
kind of rule which makes uniform compulsory for schools.
Everybody should change their way of life to reduce global warming. There are several things that
we can do. One of them is by buying and consuming fresh local groceries as much as possible. It of course
includes local vegetables, fruits, bread, etc.
Local groceries dont need much transportation to get it into the market. It of course means, the
amount of carbon dioxide produced is less than the groceries from other region. Therefore, by buying local
groceries we are helping reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced.
Consuming fresh groceries instead of frozen ones are healthier for us. Furthermore, fresh food or
groceries means no requirements for it to be freeze up. It means that no electricity is needed and saving
energy means reducing carbon dioxide and money.
So, from now on we should consume fresh local groceries to reduce global warming.

Many young people have difficulties deciding where they will live when the time comes to leave
home and make their own way in the world. Among the more common alternatives are sharing a house or a
flat with other young people and finding full board and lodgings in someone elses home. Renting a house
with other young people offers the advantage of a high degree of freedom and independence. For example,
you would be free to come and go at times that suit you, without needing to inform anyone that you would
not be home for dinner.
On the down side, renting involves a variety of responsibilities that may be more than you wish to
take on. For example, if you rent a house, you will need to spend time and money maintaining the lawn and
gardens. You may also share the legal responsibility for the rent and for damage to the property if your
name is on the rental agreement.
Finding board and lodgings, on the other hand, has significant advantages. Generally, you have no
responsibility for the cleaning and maintenance of the dwelling and its gardens, other than to take
reasonable care of your room. Your meal are usually provided for you, the home is usually more
comfortably furnished than you would be able to afford in a rented property, and your financial liability is
limited to the payment of your fixed weekly amount for board and lodging.
However, living in a board and lodging circumstances has its drawbacks too. You have less
freedom and flexibility in your lifestyle, not only in the timing of meals, but also for example, in how
loudly you can play your music.
In the end, the decision each person make will depend on their own personal valuing of
independence and convenience, as well as their feeling of readiness for taking on considerably financial
and other responsibilities of house or flat rental.

Should we have printed advertisement? There are many reasons for people to answer this
question. Many people have strong views and feel that advertisements are nothing more than useless junk
mail, while other people feel it is an important source of information.
Here are some reasons why we have advertisements in newspapers and magazines. One reason is
advertisements give us information about what is available. Looking at advertisements we can find out
what is on sale and what is new in the market. This is easy way of shopping. Another reason is that
advertisements promote business. When shopkeepers compete against each other, they try to sell their
goods as cheap as possible or attract buyers by offering discount. In this case, buyers get the beneficial
effects of this competition. They save their money.
On the other hand, some people argue that advertisements should not be put in newspapers and
magazines. Firstly, advertisements cost the shopkeepers a lot of money to print into paper. Besides, some
people dont like finding junk mail in their letter boxes. People may also find that advertisements are not
very interesting. Advertisements also influence people to buy items they dont need and cant really afford.
Advertisements use up a lot of space and a lot of effort has to be made to make the advertisements eye-
catching.
