INTRODUCTION
The objective of the given assignment is to evaluate the Gauteng Online and Khanya
projects in South Africa against the impacts of ICT by R B. Kozma. He believes that
specific applications of ICT to education can positively impact student knowledge, skills
and attitudes, as well as teaching practice, school innovations, and community services.
”(Wagner et al, 2005).
It aims to provide all learners access to quality education and provide every school within
the province with a computer laboratory with 25 computers. Ensure that comprehensive
sets of curriculum resources, tools and information across all grade levels and learning
areas in multiple South African languages are freely and electronically accessible for re-
use and adaptation by learners and teachers. It also aims at giving every learner in the
public schooling system access to the Internet and to e-mail. To bring an education
system that will meet the skills of the labour market. Ensure that the solution allows
communication with peers and teachers within and beyond the boarders of the South
African system; and also ensure methods, tools and support systems that facilitate
learning and learners who experience barriers to learning are designed, developed,
deployed and made available.
a) Student outcomes
Learners will have increased knowledge of school subjects, improved attitudes about
learning, and the acquisition of new skills needed for a developing economy. It may also
close the gender gap, and help students with special needs
b) Teacher and classroom
Teachers will develop technological skills and knowledge of new pedagogical approaches
as well as improved mastery of content and attitudes towards teaching.
EVALUATION
There are both positive and negative impacts of ICT in education of khanya and Gauteng
Online
IMPACTS
COMPARISONS
As according to Kozma and Gauteng online the observation is that there is no consistency
because the learning and testing results are fluctuating as compared to the provinces that
do not have the projects. Contrary to the above information Khanya by the information at
hand has proven that schools with their projects have performed very well in three years
randomized controlled study.
Generally speaking there is an agreement amongst the three that ICT has brought a
drastically change in the cultural and socio-economic field of study. The change is in
such a way that there is less sales on text books, students prefer using technology to
access information. Motivationally students are exposed to amazing material which was
not there in the past and that’s the reason they are so skilled technological wise.
According to the statistics there is an agreement amongst the three that diversely boys
enjoy using computers than girls. Khanya hass been known as more advanced because it
caters for the disabled learners in the hospitals and hospice centres in the Western Cape.
CONCLUSION
Gauteng did not have electricity and affected the educators’ competence in integrating
computers for teaching and learning inside and outside the school.
According to Kozma to impact student learning is to put computers and make a follow
up. This project Gauteng on line has installed computers in the labs no follow up is made.
No thorough training of educators, for example in our school computers were installed in
November last year no training has been done till to date.
As we are situated in an area where unemployment and vandalism rate is too high,
Computers were stolen and replaced but up to now they are offline. In some schools
teachers are not trained so far. There is no outcome reached as the computers are not
working teachers not empowered to use them in classroom activities. Educators are not
acquitted with the use of computers in their learning areas. This has a bad negative
impact on the classroom practice .If it was well planned and organized it was going to
have a positive impact and have technologies to support e-learning.
