Procedures Differentiation
To begin the lesson, students will sit at their desks.
Students will turn and talk:
o What is a community helper?
o After youve discussed what a community
helper is, talk about what are some things a
community helper does.
The teacher will walk around to check for student
understanding and focus
The teacher will define what a community helper
is:
o A community helper can be defined as any
person who helps with our health and
overall well-being [in the community].

The teacher will show a BrainPopJr. Video about
Community Helpers (link listed under materials)
After the video the teacher will ask questions for
understanding:
o What are some of the community helper
careers or jobs we saw on the video?
o What are some things that those people do
for their jobs?
o How do we know that the community
helper is a .(firefighter/ police officer/ For students who learn better
doctor etc.)? visually a BrainPopJr. Video and

options to name the job of the community helpers

point (the slide shows more examples of
community helpers than just the ones we

The teacher will restate that both men and women
can do any of the community helper jobs
The teacher will read from a card with clues and
students must guess which community helper it
belongs to.
o This community helper takes care of
animals or grows food.
o This community helper helps doctors care
for of children and adults.
o This community helper makes sure
citizens are obeying the law.
