PeerEvaluationofClassroomTeaching1

Thepeerteachingevaluationisintendedtobenotjustanevaluativeprocessbutalsoan
opportunitytoreceiveconstructivefeedbacktoimproveteachingeffectiveness.Though
eachprogram/Schoolmayhavetheirownprocessforpeerteachingevaluation,thisformis
intendedtoprovideasamplemodelforbothaformativeandsummativeevaluation.

Process:

I. PreVisitPreparatoryMeeting
ThePeerevaluatorandfacultymembermeetpriortothescheduledpeer
evaluationinorderto:

Reviewcoursesyllabusforcourseobjectives,teaching,andassessment
methods.
Discussthetypesoflearnersinclass.
Discussmethodsofinstructionselectedforclass,andclassformat.
Discusshowfeedbackisprovidedtostudents.
Discussareasoffocusfortheevaluation.
Gooverpeerevaluationformstobeusedduringclassobservation.
Otherareas,asrequestedbythefacultymemberbeingevaluated.

II. PeerEvaluationVisit
Apeerevaluationformshouldbecompletedaspartoftheclassobservation(a
sampleonecanbefoundattheendofthisdocument).Uponcompletionofthe
visit,thefacultymemberbeingevaluatedshoulddoaselfappraisalthatcanbe
usedaspartofapostevaluationmeeting(asampleofaselfappraisalis
providedattheendofthisdocument).

III. PostEvaluationMeeting
ThePeerevaluatorandfacultymembershouldmeetfollowingtheclassvisitto
gooverthepeerevaluationandtheselfappraisal.Followingthereviewand
discussion,asummaryshouldbejointlydevelopedbythepeerevaluatorandthe
facultymember.Thissummarymayincludestrategiesforimprovementas
appropriate.
