Abstract
This study aimed to elevate the efficacy of
curcumin from Curcuma longa on blood lipid profiles.
We systematically searched on the following databases:
PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of
Clinical Trials, AMED and Google Scholar, from inception
until February 2016. Quality of study assessed by
JADAD score and risk of bias. Random effects model
was used to pool the weighted mean difference (WMD).
Q-statistic test and I2 were used to assess the
heterogeneity. From systematic searching found 10
appropriated studies. Result shown that, in non-DM
group had significantly increased HDL-C level when
compared with placebo [WMD= 2.21 (95%CI 1.45,
2.96), I2 = 0.0%, Q-statistic p= 0.650]. In curcumin
group, which received dose of curcumin less than 1,000
mg can significantly increase HDL-C level when
compared with placebo [WMD= 2.31 (95%CI 1.57, 3.05)
I2 = 0.0%, Q-statistic p= 0.650]. Duration of curcumin
usage appropriated less than 3 months [WMD= 2.22
(95%CI 1.46, 2.98) I2 = 0.0%, Q-statistic p= 0.423].
From this result found that in curcumin group who
received curcumin dose less than 1,000 mg/day and
less than 3 months can significantly increase HDL-C
level in non-DM patients.
