Ms. LoPresto did an effective lesson on counting coins with her student teaching first grade class. She provided
manipulatives and modeled each step of the lesson well. Her instruction, guided practice, and independent work flowed
smoothly from one level to the next. She regularly praised and supported students to stay on task. When students had
difficulty with the work, she gave direct instructed to assist them as other students worked independently. To close the
lesson, students drew a money monster and created their own math problem(s) that a peer had to solve, which they
eagerly completed.
