1. State Standard(s):

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.5.3.A: Use combined knowledge of all letter-sound


correspondences, syllabication patterns, and morphology (e.g., roots and affixes) to
read accurately unfamiliar multisyllabic words in context and out of context.

2. Teaching Model(s): Whole group, individual and partner work.

3. Objective(s): Students will be able to read multisyllabic vocabulary words, understand the
meaning and use them in the correct context.

4. Materials and Resources: Smartboard, pre-prepared vocabulary menu, student reading


notebooks.

5. Instructional Procedures:
a. Motivation/Engagement: TW begin this lesson by introducing the weeks vocabulary
words along with the definition and request students to come up with sentences using each word
correctly. (15 minutes)

b. Development Activities or Learning Experience: Students will individually or with


a partner, create a story using all of this weeks vocabulary words. Once they complete their
stories, they can chose another vocabulary activity from the vocabulary menu. Other activities
include, creating a crossword puzzle with the vocabulary words, creating a slideshow with the
vocabulary words and an image that represents it, and other similar activities. (20 minutes).

c. Closure: TW lead WG closure discussion encouraging students to share their stories


they wrote with the vocabulary words. (10 minutes).
d. Extension: Students who finish early will be asked to select additional activities from
the class vocabulary menu.

6. Accommodations, Modifications and Differentiation for Diverse Learners: Students


who are struggling will be pulled for small groups during this activity. TW work with small group
on reviewing the vocabulary words, creating sentences with each word and then discussing
synonyms and antonyms for each word.

7. Assessment and Evaluation of Learning:


a. Formative: TW walk around and check students participation on the activity, taking
note of those students who are excelling and those who are struggling.

b. Summative: TW give a weekly assessment at the end of the week that will assess
students knowledge of the weeks vocabulary words.

8. Homework Assignment: There is no homework assignment associated with this lesson.
