Grade Level 4th

Learning 4.6 The student will investigate and

Objective understand how weather conditions and
phenomena occur and can be predicted. Key
concepts include
a) weather phenomena;
b) weather measurements and meteorological
tools; and
c) use of weather measurements and weather
phenomena to make weather predictions.
Pedagogy Activity Teacher will initiate topic of weather
phenomena with a weather clip from the
weather channel. The teacher will then discuss
the major weather phenomena with the
different meteorological tools with the use of
power point presentation. Children during
presentation will be taking notes from the
power point onto a flip book organizer similar
to the one pictured below.
What is a weather phenomenon: it is a
weather event that can be explained by
meteorology.
Weather measurements: are
measurements taken by metrological
tools to help predict weather
phenomena.
Thunderstorm: is caused by moisture in
the air with unstable air.
Tornadoes: A rotating column of air that
is caused by a thunderstorm that
touches the ground.
Snow: is created when cold dry air meets
up with warm wet air.
Rain is caused by warm air rising and
creating water vapor that turns into rain.
How do we measure these phenomena to
form predictions? Through metrological
tools.
Thermometer: closed glass tubing with
Technology mercury or alcohol that measure air
