In this meeting, Vanguards Principal and Assistant Principal came to our
campus to answer any questions our parents may about the schools
programs, policies, and the just their way of doing things. Attendees where
asked if they would prefer a Q&A style meeting or a presentation meeting. As
a group, it was decided that this would be a Q&A styled meeting. Some of
the questions asked were about safety.
How does Vanguard handle community members coming on to school
property? Is that something that happens often? We have never had any
issues with community members that are not part of the school coming on to
campus. Empire is such a small community that they actually look out for
one another. It is a safe school.
Other questions were about extracurricular activities. What sports and
activities are offered? There are more activities offered for middle school
student than high school, just because there are more student in the middle
school grades. They offer:

Volleyball
Drama
Soccer
Key Club
The mention of there being more extracurricular activities for middle school
grades, brought up the question of why is the high school so small? The
response is that it is a new school. Another factor is that since it is so new,
parents would want their children to have a high school experience. For
these reasons, the high school population is growing at a slow pace.
Finally, a question regarding communication about academic performance
was brought up. How do teacher let parents know how their child is doing
academically? Vanguard uses PowerSchool to give parents access to their
students performance. PowerSchool allows parents to see grades for each
assignment that the student is given. This way the parent can see what the
scores are in each assignment and if assignment are, being turned in on
time.
