Abstract

In teaching and learning environment nowadays, it is some kind of a must for educators to
have at least minor level of knowledge and skills in ICT integration in learning session.
Integrating ICT into teaching is one of the major issue and important elements as encouraged
by the Ministry of Education in order to prepare and produce current students to be as future
generation with high knowledge and skills in facing the new world with ICT and technology,
competent in every field of occupations. The integration of ICT elements has been a must for
all subjects in encouraging and exposing students to higher order thinking skills and
generating critical ideas to solve different kind of critical problem as well as apply in their
daily life situation. The simplest form of ICT elements is using animation or interactive
videos into teaching which is expected to be more efficient in understanding abstract concepts
and complicated processes. The samples for this research are Year 5 students which have
been selected from two primary schools in rural areas in Kemaman district. The samples were
then divided into two groups as control group and experimental group. The control group was
implemented with static images while the experimental group was implemented with
animation approach in science Year 5 topic, Food Chain and Food Web. Assessment was
conducted through pre and post-test to identify whether there was significant difference
between the performances of the two group before and after the implementation. The results
of the test showed a significant difference between pre and post-test of experimental group
but no significant difference between post-test scores of both groups and performances in
terms of different gender in experimental group. In conclusion, multimedia elements such as
static images and video animations would provide a better learning environment for children
and at the same time could increase the level of understanding as well as motivation and
interest towards learning.
