Highlighted Problem

This is my eleventh week of third phase of practicum at SK Jalan Baharu. I

have done with some of my observation for this phase of practicum and I
felt a bit relax because so far I hoped that I already given my best to my
supervisors. In this week, I realized that, there are still few more problems
which I should give more attention and solve throughout this practicum and
it will be a good experience for what I should not do in my future carrier as
teacher. The problems are:

Kids that won't pay attention

Classes are out of control
Students who won't talk
Students who are bored
Students who are speaking their native language

These are the most problems that I have seen throughout these three
months of teaching phase. I realized that pupils should give more attention,
care, love and guidance to overcome all this problems.

Problems analysis.
I have identified the main cause of all those problems in classroom during
my free time about the ways people respond to the lesson in the class. The
pupils were looked bored and less enjoyed the lesson most of the time.
Boredom caused some hyper active pupils to carry put destructive
behaviors such as hitting, making noise and throwing things in the
classroom. The teacher also needs to take serious actions in order to
control them. I believe that the teacher will get frustrated if the same
situation repeats in every lesson. It is harder even for me to control the
pupils behavior especially when conducting the reading and writing lesson.
This situation less happens during the listening and speaking class. This is
because of the interesting activities prepared for them such as role play. So
I had find out the way to overcome this issue in my lesson especially lesson
for reading and writing skill.

Problems Solution.

There are few solutions I have discovered for the problems mentioned
above. First of all, I have implemented more acts out activities in the class
by modifying the procedure according to the module. Other than that, I
have also conducted some language games in the class, so that the active
pupils can involve in more movements. This had increased a greater
interest among the pupils especially the shy type one. I also carried out pair
up activity and also used authentic material to increase the interest of the
pupils towards the lesson. I also have added fun activities such dancing,
singing, and jazz chants. One of the effective activities is the making crafts
during the language arts class. The pupils love to make crafts based on
their imagination and creativity and use it later as hands on activity such as
singing song.

References and More Readings.

According to Mr. Rogers (1968) play gives children a chance to practice

what they are learning. I am totally agreed with his saying based on my
own experience. When I used games my pupils really did learn something
from the lesson. Language learning is a hard task which can sometimes be
frustrating. Constant effort is required to understand, produce and
manipulate the target language. Well-chosen games are invaluable as they
give students a break and at the same time allow students to practice
language skills. Games are highly motivating since they are amusing and at
the same time challenging. Furthermore, they employ meaningful and
useful language in real contexts. They also encourage and increase
cooperation. Games are highly motivating because they are amusing and
interesting. They can be used to give practice in all language skills and be
used to practice many types of communication.'

Effectiveness

In my point of view, I would say that the solution for this problem is effective
as throughout my observation for this week, I could see that the pupils
actively participate during the lesson. The passive people in my class also
ask for the chance to participate when I asked for volunteers.

SWOT Analysis

Strength
My strength for this whole week was I was able to plan interesting lessons
by using games even simple games such as competition in reading,
completing task, Bingo game and more. I considered my pupils level and
also I modify the game rules to make sure it suits my pupils level.

Weakness

I faced really a hard time in managing the time for do the preparations for
my lesson, my action research and also the project of drawing mural in the
school. Most of the time I also had too many relief classes so I spent most
of the time in planning process so it made all my works in pending.

Opportunity

I was glad because during my lessons, my pupils had show good interest in
learning. They really get excited in playing games that I conducted in my
lesson. So it makes me forget all the struggles that I have faced but happy
with preparing these kinds of lessons.

Threat

The threat that I faced for this whole week was I was scared that I cannot
complete all my works on time. I became stress when think about the
observations, action research progress, examination and more. It really
makes me frustrated and scared because Im afraid the lesson wont go
smoothly as I planned. So each and every day I will plan my works. I also
find interesting to make my work easy and at the same time to teach my
pupils in creative way.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, this practicum phase helped to find out new and creative
ways to make the learning become more interesting and enjoyable. The
pupils give good response for these activities rather than the less
interactive activities. This experience also helped me to improve my
creativity in planning and executing activities. The pupils also enjoy the
lesson and learn the language in the most effective way. As a result, I could
achieve my learning objectives of the day.
