Standard #1 Learner Development:

The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of

learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic,

social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally

appropriate and challenging learning experiences (Professional Development in New

Jersey, 2014, p. 1).

Rationale Statement:

This artifact is a representation my personal philosophy statement as a future teacher.

Specifically, this artifact correlates to standard 1.iii.3, The teacher respects learners differing

strengths and needs and is committed to using this information to further each learners

development (Professional Development in New Jersey, 2014, p. 2). It encompasses the

framework necessary to ensure the needs of all students are met. In other words, the personal
Roman 2

philosophy statement takes into consideration the emotional, physical, social, and cognitive

development for students at the adolescence age. As a whole, this artifact reflects on myself as a

future teacher within the classroom.

It is imperative that as a teacher I take my past experiences and put them to use. With that

said, I do not intend to be the teacher that too many of mine were with a dislike for their

profession. Rather, I will be the teacher who will greet every student as the walk into the door. A

smile is a small gesture that certainly travels far. Furthermore, I will be the teacher that students

trust and come to in a time of need. A decent teacher listens, but a helpful teacher will point the

student in the right direction. Thus, I will be the nurturing teacher who treats all with respect,

happiness, and equality, which in turn will allow the students to feel safe and comfortable.

In the future, I intend to reference back upon this artifact. My philosophy consists of

multiple components that I firmly believe in enforcing as a teacher. With that in mind, in the

future I want to reference back and always remember that I want to be the best teacher that I

know I can be.
