Dear Sir,

With this letter I would like to hereby express my motivation for pursuing a
scholarship at VIA University College.
There are strong foundations for my fervent belief that VIA is my place.
My passion for building things can be traced back to childhood. My earliest projects
were simple and primitive, but I always loved challenging myself with designing
more advanced ones. Often propelling my artist father into anger by taking books
about famous sculptures away from his shelf, I was trying hard to relish in my love
for learning about form and design. Gradually, I have progressed from erecting sand
castles and assembling LEGO battleships to designing buildings and researching
numerous architectural intricacies. I hope to elevate this passion to the next level
by the experiences I hope to acquire at VIA University College.
I grew up amid the concrete jungles inside the inner-city of Hanoi. I have been a
constant witness to the poor housing conditions and the detrimental effects of over-
population and environmental pollution that are prevalent throughout the city. I
have held in my heart, since the day I constructed my first LEGO forts, that my
ultimate dream is to transform both the appearance and the substance of Hanoi
buildings. What I initially had in mind are high-rise and sustainable green buildings
that will be both aesthetically- pleasing and convenient at the same time. Naturally,
I was enthralled by the ingenious feats of Scandinavian Architecture, which is the
vanguard of the world in combating over-population and environmental pollution
with green technology. In particular, Danish Architecture centers around two issues I
have always been fascinated with: energy-efficiency and effective urban-planning.
At VIA, I was given not only opportunities to explore my interests in green
technology but also to put theory into practice. I gained invaluable knowledge
when researching algae-based solar panels for residential buildings with Professor
Poul Hansen. The system might make enormous contribution to the field of building
energy design and pave the way for several green energy models to come. Also, I
will never forget the many all-nighters spent reading books about green technology
in the school library. The amount of knowledge I gained at VIA was immense, and I
hope to continue to explore the latest advances in green technology at the
university. By taking lessons at VIA, I am also taking steps closer to making my
childhood dreams of bringing a fresh and green face to Vietnamese buildings
come true.
Green technology is not the only reason for me to consider VIA my second home,
where I am intellectually nourished as well as emotionally fulfilled. Not only were
the classes innovative and the students collaborative, the professors were also
genuinely interested in teaching. In particular, I am most thankful to my instructors
who introduced to me the ingenuous art of designing building and guided me
through perplexing concepts. I will never forget the times when Mr. Bent Michael
Hansen bent over backward to teach me about highly complex computer programs
like AutoCad or Revit or dedicating his breaks to guide the entire class through
some seemingly insurmountable problems with green roofs or Danishs traditional
building techniques. Under his guidance, I was able to mature in my architectural
skills and also became a more conscientious person. Another teacher whom I
respect is Mr. Anders Petersen, a master in condensing the most complicated
building-planning problems into bite-sizes that students can easily digest. His
group-assignments helped me to hone my technical skills and fueled my
effectiveness as a team-player. For instance, our group had to endure a great period
of stress during the Fourth Semester. We were entrusted with designing a highly
intricate building with green roofs and unconventional amenities. I tried my best to
be a productive member of the group, leading to auspicious results. The course
have helped me to refine my innate characteristics such as creativity and
innovativeness. One favorite episode of my time at VIA was when our class went to
the Annual Innovation Competition of Horsens in CASA stadium to come up with
proposals for a new kind of restaurant for Horsens students. Time was running out.
Resources were limited. We invented a restaurant chain that uses local ingredients
to make food that can be ordered through smartphone apps. By the end two of our
proposals impressed the judges and we were granted the prizes. I attributed
efficient team-work to our success, and I wish to be engaged in such exciting events
again at VIA.

Lastly, I can continue to build upon my primary characteristics, one LEGO block at a
time, at VIA. Nothing excites me more than a challenge and I cannot be more
excited to confront them all, for each is an opportunity to learn and grow. I am a
strong believer in turning dreams into reality and the Construction Management and
Architectural Technology program will help me to do just that. I always strive to
achieve the best of results, whether it be studying or internships. (add some shit
here) I truly hope that one day all my efforts will pay off and I can fulfill my
personal dream of being a Green Architect that help develop a sustainable future.
Attached are my transcripts and records from both universities as well as the
recommendations by my teachers and employers. I am eager to return to the
program and contribute to the projects. Thank you for your time and consideration. I
am looking forward to positive responses.
