O en trminos ms sencillos:
A temperatura constante, el volumen de una masa fija de gas es
inversamente proporcional a la presin que este ejerce.
Dnde:
Cuando disminuye el volumen la distancia que tienen que recorrer las partculas
es menor y por tanto se producen ms choques en cada unidad de tiempo:
aumenta la presin.
EXPERIMENTACIN DE BOYLE
Boyle llev a cabo experimentos con el aire para encontrar la relacin que existe
entre el volumen y la presin. Tom un tubo en forma de U y verti mercurio
hasta que los niveles en ambas ramas fuesen iguales. En esta forma se tiene el
volumen del aire V a la presin atmosfrica P, ya que las ramas del mercurio
tienen el mismo nivel. En seguida verti ms mercurio hasta lograr un desnivel.
Midiendo la columna de aire encerrado obtuvo el nuevo volumen V1. La nueva
presin P1 de este volumen de gas. Despus de varias lecturas con este
dispositivo. Boyle encontr que al incrementar la presin sobre un gas confinado,
ste reduca su volumen en la misma proporcin.

Es, a temperatura crtica, la ms alta presin a la que una sustancia pura puede
existir como lquido en equilibrio con su gas. Adems es la mnima presin que
debe ejercerse para licuar un gas a temperatura crtica.

Tratar de mantener la temperatura constante en el equipo Boyle.
Trabajar de manera ordenada en cada experimento para as obtener
mejores resultados y mejores valores con lo que respecta a la presin y el
volumen, para as tener un buen resultado al aplicar las ecuaciones.
