An exciting opportunity is available to you
next year in the sixth grade!
You and your child have a great opportunity! Students entering the sixth grade have the
opportunity to sign up to play a band or orchestra instrument. We will be holding
instrument fittings for fifth graders that would like to play in the band or the orchestra for
the 2017-18 school year. Students will be scheduled for an appointment with the band and
orchestra directors during the first week of May.

Please look over the information provided and return the attached permission form to the
FCI office or to your childs home room teacher by Friday, April 28. By signing this form
you are not committing to the program, but just allowing your student to come down and
try out some instruments. You never know what hidden talents these students might
possess!

An informational meeting will be required of parents on Monday, May 22 at 7:00 pm in the

FCI gymnasium for all band and orchestra parents.

Helpful Hints to Students Trying Out

1) Sign up to try the instruments even if you are not sure you want to play in the band
or the orchestra. You might find something you really like.
2) You should choose three band instruments you would like to try before coming to
the session. You may try as many orchestra instruments you like.
3) Keep an open mind when trying out for an instrument. Although we will try to
honor your first choice, flexibility is the key to a successful band and orchestra
experience.
4) Be courteous to the person testing you. The band and orchestra directors and
Paiges Music representatives will be testing you the best they can. Be patient with
them.
5) Relax and enjoy the audition. You cannot do anything to prepare for this.
Just come do your best and have fun!
6) You should choose the instrument that works well for you. Do not worry about
what your friend is playing. We need lots of good players on all of the instruments.

To be enrolled in band or orchestra for the 2017-18 school year, parents will need to
attend the informational meeting on Monday, May 22 at 7:00 pm in the FCI
gymnasium. If there is a conflict, please contact a director below.

Please complete and return the attached page by Friday, April 28.

We are excited to have the opportunity to work with the great kids at FCI next year in
the band and orchestra program!
