2 Basic Terms
IDEA Slab is a simple program for the analysis and design of floor slabs. IDEA Slab is one
from the group of programs developed by IDEA RS company especially for 2D FEA
structural analysis. All these programs work with the same data model. This allows their
direct connection with all IDEA design modules.

You can input a slab of any shape with openings in IDEA Slab program. Slab can be
supported in points or lines. Supports can be flexible with defined stiffness. Loads are sorted
into load cases. Slab can be loaded by force and moment point load, force and moment line
loads and force patch loads. Analysis of internal forces and deformations is done by finite
element method. Program offers internal forces mx, my, mxy, vy, vxz and deformations uz,
fix, fiy. Load cases can be combined.
Results of IDEA Slab program can be directly used in design module IDEA RCS where the
required reinforcement can be designed.
FEA programs of IDEA RS are designed in such way that they can also be used via internet.
They are implemented in the MS Azure platform. All of them can be run as Cloud
applications.
3 User interface

component.
The converted outlines and openings are drawn in the Detail window. Click Clear in ribbon
group Import of slab geometry to delete the converted parts of the cross-section.
5.2 Geometry
Individual navigator commands of group Geometry are used for the input of slab outline,
opening in the slab, inner nodes and inner lines together with definition of supports and
support stiffnesses.
5.2.1 Outline
To input slab outline click navigator command Geometry > Outline.
The shape of slab is defined by its outline. Outline edges can be straight and are defined by
end nodes. When a new project is opened, the default shape of a rectangle 6 x 4 m is created.
Final shape of a slab is done by editing of existing nodes or adding new ones. New nodes are
inserted into the centre of selected edge. When a node is inserted, user can edit its coordinates
and place it in the desired position.
Nodes are edited in table in the Data window. Each node represents one line of a table.
Numbers of lines and nodes are generated automatically and cannot be changed.
Columns in table Outline:
Line the number of line.
Node the number of node.
X,
Y input of node coordinates in the global coordinate system in the X (or Y) axis
direction.
Nodal support input the support conditions in the node.
Line support input the support conditions along the line. Following support
conditions can be defined for node or line:
