your future target job. Include full explanation of the work you will do, the work environment, and
why you are intrigued by this line of work (75-150 words):
My future career is in special education. I see myself in a classroom environment
and being the lead teacher. I look forward to giving children the confidence in academic
success. One can do so by understanding each students strengths, utilizing
opportunities to incorporate technology, integrating UDL, and creating an inviting
classroom that leads to focused, successful students. All students are unique and learn
differently. Recognizing this offers an opportunity to modify teaching techniques to help
all students learn and understand in the way that best suits them. My goal is to work with
my special education students and to help them discover how they learn best so we can
reach our overall goals.

section below.

http://www.p21.org/storage Creativity and Innovation Think Creatively:

/documents/P21_Framewo Thinking creatively will be a very important skill
rk_Definitions.pdf to have in a special education classroom. I will
need to be able to think in a way that I can tweak
my lessons to benefit each of my students. I truly
believe that we are all different no matter if we
have a disability or not. We all learn in different
ways too. So as a special education teacher I will
understand and learn how I can help each of my
students be creative when learning so we can all
reach our goals.
Work Creatively with Others:
I am a strong believer of peer collaboration and
peer coaching. This will come in handy during
times of mainstreaming into general classrooms.
The general education students would have the
opportunity to help guide and coach my student
to having a better understanding of the topics we
are discussing. Just because my students are
different then them does not mean that they are
still not like some of their peers. Working with
others will also improve their social skills.
Communicating with one another will help with
speech, interactions with others, and how to
express themselves and personality. Integrating
group work and providing feedback will give
them the will power to stay focused and to
achieve their goals that are set into place.
Implement Innovations:
Using hands on activity and projects that give
them tangible step by step instructions can help
us teachers see that they are understanding and
able to comprehend what I am telling them.

http://www.p21.org/storage Solving Problems Solve Problems:

/documents/P21_Framewo As a teacher you have your lesson plans and
rk_Definitions.pdf your schedules that you will follow; however no
matter if your are general education teacher in
elementary/high school, or a special education
your day will always not got according to plan.
There will behavioral issues, meltdowns, tough
time at home, and then some great days! As a
teacher you have to be prepared for anything and
everything, then sometimes you just have to go
with the flow. Solving problems will be a big part
of my job. Not only would I have to solve
problems once they occurred I would also have
to be able to have a controlled classroom to stop
problems from arising. Have expectations put
into place aloe my students to understand what is
and is not okay to occur during our time in the
classroom.

http://www.p21.org/storage Communication and Communicate Clearly:

/documents/P21_Framewo Collaboration Communicating in a way that my student fully
rk_Definitions.pdf understand is key. This will help them grasp the
concept and to accomplish the task at hand.
Using all sorts of learning techniques will help
my students to understand at their level. Using
audio, verbal, kinesthetic, tactile, and visuals will
benefit their learning experience. Also I need to
be sure that as much as I teach them I also need
to listen to them. Their questions are extremely
important to them and their peers. Collaboration
with peers and giving feedback to help them
achieve those goals will help them feel
empowered. Building them up, encouraging
them, and instructing them will give them a since
of worth and the understanding that they can do
it. Utilizing technology will be a great resource for
me to use actively to let my students feel
comfortable, as well as assisted.

http://www.p21.org/storage Flexibility and Adapt to Change:

/documents/P21_Framewo Adaptability Being flexible is an very important trait to have as
rk_Definitions.pdf a teacher. Like I mentioned previously in the
classroom things will never go completely
according to the plans that are laid out. So being
able to change and stay focused, as well as, calm
will show your students that it is not a big deal.
Your role will be different bewtween your
students. One student might need more attention
in math than another, or one student might need
softer and a soothing voice during time of
instruction where others might understand that
their work needs to get done with a stern strong
voice. There will be moments of academic
teaching and learning, in addition to life skills and
heart to heart moments. Also there might be
opportunities to transfer to another school/grade
level/county. You need to be able to tweak your
teaching to best suit the new school to where you
are able to accomplish your professional goals to
teach your students how to be academically
successful.

http://www.p21.org/storage Leadership and Guide and Lead Others:

/documents/P21_Framewo Responsibility I am in TEL 410, which is a class on Leadership
rk_Definitions.pdf and Advocacy in Education. This course will help
me be a strong leader with confidence and how to
solve an issue at hand. I look forward to
becoming a confident teacher. I want to inspire
my students and give them the confidence that
they too can accomplish the goals that we set
into place. Helping them solve their struggles and
weaknesses and transform them into strengths
will give them the power to do all that they out
their mind to. Lastly, with a positive attitude and
determination to stick with it during the hard and
difficult times one can reach what they want to
accomplish.

My Future Target Job

Write a description of your future target job, including the entry-level requirements and ongoing
professional development requirements which you identified in the job researched above.
Provide in-text citations for where you found your information. Include the resources in the
reference list below. 300-400 words (10 pts)
My future job in special education is in the process. I have applied and met the
minimal requirements of going to have an, earned an undergraduate degree (Va Sped.
Certification & Requirements). The county that I applied for is leaning towards hiring me
under a provisional license. A provisional license is a Candidates who do not meet
all of the requirements for standard teacher licensure in Virginia may be eligible
for a three-year Provisional License to teach. The Provisional License allows
those with a bachelors degree three years in which to complete the remaining
requirements for a standard Five-Year Renewable License while leading a
classroom. A school district must hire an individual and request the Provisional
License for him or her. During this time, the candidate must complete remaining
requirements (such as endorsement deficiencies, teacher assessments, or
professional studies coursework) to receive a renewable five-year license
(Alternate Routes to Teaching in Virginia). I look forward possibly having the
opportunity to teach under this alternative way. I would then have to jump into a
program to complete the remaining requirements. I would do so through VCU,
Virginia Commonwealth University partaking in the COVE program. COVE
stands for Certifying Online Virginia Educators. They tell us that; Eligible
participants are special educators holding a valid conditional or provisional teaching
license who are working with students with high incidence disabilities (COVE). There
are 11 courses that will be completed. Some of the classes are, Educational Assessment
of Individuals with Diverse Learning Needs, Secondary Education and Transition
Planning, Reading Foundations, and Characteristics of Student with High Incidence
Disabilities (COVE). During my interview Mrs. Irby the interviewer asked me What
would your class management consist of? So seeing the 21st Century Skills that I
choose seem to consist of a lot that I stated. I was able to discus how I would build
relationships, set standards, be flexible, solve problems, integrate STEM and STEAM to
present creativity, collaborate with my peers as well as my students doing so in group
work and lastly, be a more than a teacher. I want to become a mentor and role model for
my students.

With the help of the 21st Century Skills acronym I am able to have help in better
understanding it. KSAVE stands for, knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and ethics
this acronym offers me a quick resources to remember all that they mean to me in my
professional goals (2012). The categories offered such details that I could use all of
them. Although choosing the top 5 seemed easy because I was able to depict exactly
how I would implement them in my ways of teaching. I am a huge believer in lifelong
learning. Our skills will always remain with us but the will transform in ways that help us
adapt in what we are currently doing or using those skills for. For instance I am currently
working at Starbucks. My excellent customer service skills will be transformed in a way
that I can use them during my time in communicating with parents and making them feel
apart of my team in educating their child. Developing skills to change the world is the
ultimate goal. We will guide each other to use our strengths and use the skills for
connecting with our society. We need to develop our skills and competences
throughout our lives, not only for our personal fulfillment and our ability to actively
engage with the society in which we live, but for our ability to be successful in a
constantly changing world of work, said the Lifelong Learning Programme. While
reading the Lifelong Learning Programme on Digital competence I felt inspired to guide
my students to better understand technology in this way. Using technology in special
education is a great resources so by incorporating not only the basic ways to use word
processing, spreadsheets, databases, information storage and management, but to also
teach by using, social media and the major social networking sites to help my students
grasp topics and concepts in a way that they will later be able to so with, information
sharing and collaborative networking, learning and research (Lifelong Learning
Programme).
