Manufacturers specification
2 MATERIAL
The chemicals used for the soil treatment shall be any one or combination of the following with the
tentative concentration shown against each emulsion or as per manufactures recommendations.
Chemicals Concentration
Lindane (Ref IS 632) 1.0% (by weight)
Chlorpyrifos 20 EC (Ref IS 8944) 1.0% (by weight)
The material preferably shall be received and shall get consumed within 90 days of production of the
material (8944)
3.2 Storage:
1. Storehouses must be located away from areas where people or animals are housed and away
from water sources, wells, and canals
2. They should be located on high ground and fenced, with access only for authorized persons.
However, there should be easy access for insecticide delivery vehicles and, ideally access on at
least three sides of the building for fire-fighting vehicles and equipment in case of emergency
3. Pesticides must NOT be kept where they would be exposed to sunlight, water, or moisture which
could affect their stability
4. Storehouses should be secure and well ventilated
5. Containers, bags or boxes should be well stacked to avoid possibility of spillage. The principle of
first expiry first out should be followed
6. Stock and issue registers should be kept upto date. Access to the Pesticides should be limited to
authorized personnel only
7. The store room should have a prominently displayed mark of caution used for poisonous or
hazardous substances. It should be kept locked
8. Containers should be arranged to minimize handling and thus avoid mechanical damage which
could give rise to leaks. Containers and cartons should be stacked safely, with the height of stacks
limited to ensure stability
3.3 Handling
Exposure to Pesticides may occur when handling and spraying Pesticides. The exposures to Pesticides may
occur in following situations:
1. When handling the insecticide product during opening of the package, mixing and preparation of
the spray
2. When spraying the insecticide
3. When disposing the insecticide solution and containers
clean clothing and should wash thoroughly with soap and water especially before having any edibles. In
the event of severe contamination, clothing should be removed at once and the skin shall be washed
thoroughly with soap and water. If chemicals splash into the eyes they shall be flushed with plenty of soap
and water and immediate medical attention should be sought. The concentrates are oil solutions and
present a fire hazard owing to the use of petroleum solvents. Flames should not be allowed during mixing.
Care should be taken in the application of soil toxicants to see that they are not allowed to contaminate
wells or springs which serve as sources of drinking water. In case of poisoning, suitable measures shall be
taken for protection in accordance with 1S 4015.
General precautions:
1. The operator should also wear a protective hat and face shield or goggles
2. Do not eat, drink or smoke while working
3. Wash hands and face with soap and water after spraying and before eating, smoking or drinking
4. Shower or bath at the end of every days work and wear new clean clothes
5. Wash overalls and other protective clothing at the end of every working day in soap and water and
keep them separate from the rest of the familys clothes
6. If the insecticide touches the skin, wash off immediately with soap and water
7. Change clothes immediately if they become contaminated with Pesticides
8. Inform the supervisor immediately if one feels unwell.
The acidity (as H2SO4) shall not be more than 0.2 percent by mass or alkalinity (as NaOH) shall not be
more than 0.05 percent by mass.
6.3 Treatment to RCC Foundation, Raft, retaining wall & Backfill earth
In-case of RCC foundation due to the concrete mi, the termites are unable to penetrate hence the vertical
treatment shall start from 500mm below the expected ground level. The depth of 500 mm shall be
determined from the new soil level resulting from the filling or cutting mentioned above, and soil in
immediate contact with the vertical surfaces of RCC foundations shall be treated at the rate of 7.5 L/m2.
Post completion of the foundation, column, retaining wall etc., the structure shall be treated at the rate
of 7.5 l/m2 of the vertical surface of the sub-structure for each side prior to back filling. The further
treatment shall be continued on the perimeter of the building. Prior to this treatment the care shall be
taken that the backfilled material is well compacted & the material is dry. If water is used for ramming the
earth fill, the chemical treatment shall be carried out after the ramming operation is done by rodding the
earth at 150 mm centers close to parallel to the wall surface and spraying the chemical emulsion at the
above dosage of 7.5L/m2. After the treatment, the soil should be tamped in place. The earth is usually
returned in layers and the treatment shall be carried out in similar stages. The chemical emulsion shall be
directed towards the masonry surfaces so that the earth in contact with these surfaces is well treated
with the chemical
be made at all the junctions of wall / column with the floor (before laying the sub-grade) the rod holes
made in the channel up to the ground level 150 mm apart and the iron rod moved backward and
forward to break up the earth and chemical emulsion poured along the wall at the rate of 7.5 l/m2 of
vertical wall or column surface so as to soak the soil right to the bottom. The soil should be tamped back
into place after the operation. (the same treatment shall be followed in case of basement earth filling)
6.7 Treatment of soil under PCC / grade slab around external perimeter of building (incase of the
Masonry sub structure)
Top surface of the consolidated earth over which the apron is to be laid shall be treated with chemical
emulsion at the rate of 5 l/m2 of the surface before the apron is laid. If consolidated earth does not
allow emulsion to seep through, holes up to 50 to 75 mm deep at 150 mm centers both ways may be
made with 12 mm diameter mild steel rod on the surface to facilitate saturation of the soil with the
chemical emulsion
7.2 Frequency: As and when material received for incoming material inspection
7.4 SAMPLING
Sampling plan
Quantity of Material in Lot (kg) For Container of up to 25 kg For Container more than 25 kg
Up to 1000 3 2
1001 to 3000 5 3
3001 to 10000 7 5

from NABL accredited Lab which are listed in Kalpataru Ltd. List of Approved Laboratories -----
Check for the Lab in this case
2. Material / test reports of lab other than the listed lab shall not be considered or accepted
3. In case the listed laboratory does not have the facility of performing particular test then its
contractors responsibility to identify & suggest the laboratory name, Engineer In-Charge can
decide to do testing or not in that lab after deliberate internal discussion & approval with the
Quality team at corporate office.
Disposal of remains of Pesticides and empty packaging
1. At the end of the days work, the inside of the spray pump should be washed and any residual
insecticide should be flushed from the lance and nozzle
2. The rinsing water should be collected and carefully contained in clearly marked drums with a
tightly fitted lid. This should be used to dilute the next days tank loads or disposed properly by
the supervisor at disposal sites like pits or digs
3. Never pour the remaining insecticide into rivers, pools or any source of water
4. All empty packaging should be returned to the supervisor for safe disposal according to national
guidelines
5. Never re-use empty insecticide containers
6. It shall be the duty of manufacturers, formulators of Pesticides and operators to dispose packages
or surplus materials and washing in a safe manner so as to prevent environmental or water
pollution
7. The used packages shall not be left outside to prevent their re-use
Disposal of Expired Pesticides
1. Adequate measures should be undertaken to avoid expiry of stocks in storehouses
2. First Expiry First Out principle should be strictly followed during stock movements
3. Information about near expiry stock, should be provided to the contractors site supervisor well in
time so that necessary action can be taken
4. The expired stock should be returned to manufacturer for disposal as per guidelines preferably
through incineration process
