Ash Wednesday, March1, 2017 Mass & Ashes Schedule:

9:00amMass & Ashes
4:00pm-Word Service & Ashes
7:00pm-Mass & Ashes
The Catechism of the Catholic Church identifies the cross and resurrection of Christ as The Paschal
Mystery. The cross and resurrection are inseparably joined together. The Paschal Mystery includes
both the death and the resurrection, the expiation of sin and glorification, and the dying and the rising
of Christ Jesus the Lord. On Ash Wednesday we will begin a 96 (40 days of Lent + 6 Sundays + 50
days of Easter = 96) day journey during which we will celebrate the Paschal Mystery. The culmina-
tion of our Paschal remembrance will be sealed on the solemnity of Pentecost, the Churchs birthday.
As we begin the Lenten season which calls us to repentance and renewal, we embrace the cross of
Christ. We die to our sinfulness while we await the glorious transformation of our hearts through
the resurrection of new life.

Please Note Lenten Regulations: Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday. In addition, all Catholics 14 years old and older must abstain from
meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting as explained by the U.S.
bishops means partaking of only one full meal. Some food (not equaling another full meal) is permit-
ted at breakfast and around midday or in the eveningdepending on when a person chooses to eat
the main or full meal.

ANNUAL FISH FRY BEGINS ON ASH WEDNESDAY

The Annual Fish Fry will begin on Ash Wednesday, March 1st and
continue every Friday through Lent (except Good Friday) from 11:30am-2:00pm and
4:00pm-7:00pm at St. Damien Parish Park. (behind Dierkens Drug Store)
***BAKERS: We will gladly accept any home baked goods at Fish Fry each week.
Please drop them off at the St. Damien Parish Park on Fridays. Thank you!

The Way of The Cross

The ever popular Way of the Cross is a devotion that actually dates back to the 4th century
when new Christians would walk the Way of Christ in Jerusalem. In the 13th century St.
Francis of Assisi developed the popular devotion into what we know today as the fourteen
stations. The Way of the Cross are devotions in which the faithful show their affection for
the Passion and Death of Jesus. For all Parishioners who would like to attend the Way of the
Cross, there will be an opportunity for stations on;
Friday evenings at 7:00pm, beginning on March 3rd

BE RENEWED IN YOUR BAPTISM THIS LENT. Each year Lent offers

us a time to reflect on our Baptism. At Baptism we are welcomed into the
community of faith, the Church. In the waters of Baptism we are made like
Christ and become sons and daughters of the Father. Through Baptism the Ho-
ly Spirit sends us forth as disciples to use our gifts to help others learn, love
and live Jesus. This is the call of ALL baptized, not just a few.
Renew your potential for discipleship at Back to the Font, a Morning Re-
flection that includes presentation, prayer and discussion. Sessions will be held
on Sat., March 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at the following locations: St. Alphonsus, Wexford; St. Bonaven-
ture, Glenshaw; St. Cecilia, Rochester; St. Frances Cabrini, Center Twp.; Holy Family, New Brighton;
Immaculate Conception, Washington; St. James the Apostle, Pulaski; St. Katharine Drexel (Ava Ma-
ria church), Bentleyville; St. Michael, Avella; Our Lady of Joy, Holiday Park; St. Paul Seminary,
Crafton; St. Pius X, Brookline; St. Rita, Munhall; St. Stephen, Hazelwood; St. Vincent de Paul, New
Castle; St. Wendelin, Carbon Center. Visit OnMissionChruchAlive.org or call 412-456-3180 for more

Its Been a Loooooooong Time Since My Last Confession
