Potentially Super Bowls Due To HB2." Forbes. Forbes Magazine, 22 July 2016. Web. 05

This is an article from Forbes magazine. This article is discussing the economic impact of the
2016 All-Star game getting moved out of Charlotte because of the HB2 bill. The bill has been
changed since this article so some of the stuff that was said in the article wont currently be
valid. But there were some good points brought up in the article. While the NBA would not say
how much of an impact the All-Star Game has due to a policy of not disclosing financial
information, looking at the entire event, accounting for hotels, restaurants, tourism
transportation, and general spending, Charlotte is estimated to lose $100 million according to the
Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority. This was an estimation of the impact the All-Star game
couldve had on Charlotte. This would be used to show the potential economic impact. Forbes is
a highly credible and respected company when it comes to money.

This source is an online article from the the Charlotte Observer. The article is talking about the
potential revenue the Panthers couldve generated back in 2016 during their super bowl run. But,
the article only gave perfect scenarios. It didnt show the potential if the attendance wasnt that
high. The article gave exact numbers that were received directly from the Panthers organization
so that increased the credibility of the article. Analysts often estimate a home playoff game can
have at least $5 million in economic impact. Viewers around the country will also tune in to
watch a playoff game, translating to national exposure for the city of Charlotte. This article will
be used to show the potential revenue the Panthers couldve generated for Charlotte and its
businesses. This important because I am trying to show the economic impact that their season
had. The Charlotte Observer is both a regular and online newspaper. They cover mostly the
Carolinas but they also cover national and world events. Lots of people depend on them to stay
in the news and keep up to date with it.

This is an online article from WSOCTV back in 2012. The article is talking about the economic
impact Charlotte sports industry had. The article didnt include who participated in the study so
the data they have may be skewed. Charlottes sports industry has a $2.1 billion economic
impact and supports more than 23,000 jobs, according to new study.
The study, called "The Economic Impact of Sports and Sports Events on the Charlotte MSA
Economy," was conducted on behalf of the Charlotte Sports Commission by John Connaughton,
a professor of economics at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. I could possibly use the
number they got from the study but since I dont have much information about the study I doubt
I will. WSOCTV is a well known news outlet in Charlotte and its surrounding areas. They
produce many news articles on the daily.

This is an online article discussing the potential economic impact of the playoff games the
Carolina Panthers play. The article only talks about one specific numeric impact they could have.
Also the article doesnt have a lot of information so I dont know if I can really use this article.
We realize when we have the big national games that's even more significant. There's a 40
percent increase in the revenues generated in hotels in big national TV games,. This quote from
the article is the only thing I can use. Its not a lot but it can be useful for my topic. This article
came from the Time Warner Cable news. The little information the article had came from the
CEO of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority and Charlottes chamber president.

Goodman, Michael E. The History of the Carolina Panthers. Mankato, MN: Creative Education,
2005. Print.
(Goodman)
This is a book that was written about the history of the Carolina Panthers. The book is mostly
information about the Carolina Panthers franchise from beginning up until the year the book was
published. The book gave good background I could possibly use to help educate my audience.
Specifically, it talks about how the franchise got started, who started it, and the steps it took to
make the team official. This could be good background for someone who doesnt know about the
Panthers or someone who isnt too familiar with the whole expansion franchise process. I will
use information from this book to talk about the background. Michael E. Goodman has written
over 100 books about sports teams and sports figures dating back to the 90s. I think someone like
him has enough credibility to be used.

This is an online article from Jones & Blount. The article is discussing how the Panthers super
bowl helped generate revenue. The article gave a few number values talking about the Panthers
economic impact. This could be very useful if I can prove their credibility. It is estimated that
any given regular season home game for the Panthers generates a direct economic impact of $14
million to our economy, and that is primarily to the hospitality and tourism industry, Morgan
said. The city has already felt the bounce from hosting two additional playoff games, he said..
This could be used because it shows an exact number of the impact. Ive never heard of Jones &
Blount but if I can find something that proves that they are credible then there's a strong chance I
will use some of the information they provided.

This is an online article from The Clog. The article is just talking about all of the reasons people
like the Carolina Panthers. There isnt any specific numeric value of how this relates to the
Panthers economic impact. This wont really help me in any way. There isnt any valuable
information in the article, just interesting facts. Ive never heard of this site so I dont know their
credibility. There isnt any outrageous information so I could use what they have if I actually
needed it.

This is an online article from the Mansfield News Journal. The article is talking about how the
Panthers super bowl run impacted Charlotte. This article didnt give specific numbers or
anything. So, this article wont have any major use for me but there were some good points in it.
"They go out and spend money either on tickets to attend games or the Super Bowl itself or to
host parties or to go to a bar and watch the game, said McFall. Then they have to subtract what
they might've spent in other forms of entertainment." Other activities that could see a drop in
sales, places like pool halls, bowling alleys and even golf courses. Professor McFall said it won't
be a drastic decline but it might be noticeable to business owners.. This could be used because it
shows the general effect the Panthers season had without specifying the monetary value. I never
heard of this company until now but they are a part of the USA Today Network.

Soergel, Andrew. "Could a Panthers Super Bowl Win Breathe Life Into Wall Street?" U.S. News

(Soergel)
This is an online article that is talking about how the outcome of the super bowl affects wall
street. It is informing people on the potential changes on wall street. This gives examples and
statistics that could be useful if needed. John Canally, vice president and chief economic
strategist at LPL Financial, wrote in a recent research note. "An NFC winner produces a positive
year 85% of the time, while the Dow is only up 57% of the time when the winner comes from
the AFC." Canally found that the Dow gains an average of 11.4 percent during years in which an
NFC team win the Super Bowl. That's compared to the modest 3.6 percent growth seen during
years in which the AFC takes home the title.. This article could help me if I was talking about
the national economy but I want to focus on Charlotte's economy. This article came from the U.S
News. They cover many different nationwide events so I would consider them credible.

Strickland, Bryan "Panthers Named Economic Growth Champion ." Audio RSS. N.p., 2 Nov.

(Strickland)
This is an online article on the Panthers official website written by senior writer Bryan
Strickland. The article is talking about how the Panthers received the inaugural Economic growth
award. It also talks about study on the Panthers and their economic impact. There wasnt many
details and the article wasnt that lengthy. This article will be used to show the impact the
Panthers has had on Charlottes economy. I also could possibly use the study that was done. A
University of South Carolina study in 2012 before the team's string of three consecutive
playoff berths and the appearance in Super Bowl 50 concluded that the Panthers' annual
economic impact is $636 million, including $512 million annually in Mecklenburg County.
This is important because I am trying to show the impact of the Panthers season back in 2016.
Bryan Strickland covers all aspects of the Panthers. He talks an actual award that was received to
recognize the Panthers impact on the economy.
