Course: Fundamentals of Nursing

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Identify the components of the nursing process and relate nursing care concepts as the

basis for beginning clinical reasoning and critical thinking.


2. Discuss ethical principles and legal issues that influence the practice of professional

nursing and recognize the importance of nurse practice acts, standards of care and

patients rights as guidelines for professional practice.


3. Demonstrate competency in basic nursing skills and use effective therapeutic

communication techniques in providing safe and quality patient care in a simulated or

actual clinical environment.


4. Compare the different nursing theories and analyze their strength, limitation, and

application in the clinical practice setting.


5. Formulate nursing diagnosis and develop a nursing care plan to address clients needs

with an emphasis on health promotion, illness prevention, therapeutics and restoration of

optimal health.
6. Evaluate own legal and professional accountability and relate essential nursing values to

attitudes, personal qualities, professional behaviors, and commitment to lifelong

learning.
