PROJECT STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN SEM/SESSION:

PROJECT INSTRUCTION

General:
1. This project is to be carried out in a group of maximum Five (5) students.
2. This project will contribute 35% to the total mark.
i) Report will contribute 25% to the total mark.
ii) Presentation will contribute 10% to the total mark.
3. Duration of this project is 13 weeks (week 1 13). Presentation will be held on week 12 &
13 and final report must be submitted at the end of week 14.
Tasks:
You need to find architect & structure plan from the construction project that consist of
single storey house.
Based on that plan :-
1. Propose the position and arrangement of beam & column on architecture plan and
Compare with the existing structure plan.
2. Propose the suitable size for all the beams.
3. Propose the suitable thickness for all the slabs.
4. Proposed the suitable size for all columns.
5. Choose only one continuous beam, one simply supported beam and:
(i) Calculate the actions (characteristics and design) for beams.
(ii) Arrange the actions and then analyses for beams to get the maximum
bending moment and shear force.
(iii) Use only one methods of analysis that you have learned in the lecture class
(iv) Design all the reinforcement for the beam.
6. Choose only one panel of one-way continuous slab and one panel of two-way
continuous slab .Analyse and design the slab.
7. Choose only one point of column at beam and slab area that have been designed.
i) Calculate transfer load and moment produced by the load on beam that have
been designed
ii) Calculate the effective height of column, and classify its type (short/ slender)
iii) Design all reinforcement required for the column.
8. Prepare the detailing for the beams, slabs and column.

Note:
1. Please make any suitable/relevant assumptions.
2. All design must base on Eurocode 2.
3. The presentation must in the group and you can use any of material such as power point,
movie maker etc.
4. A good structural design must be able to fulfill the following aspects:
i. Reliable structural system / safety
ii. Utility
iii. Economy
iv. Aesthetics
v. Constructability
vi. Durability
5. Structural analysis and design software are allowed to use only for checking purpose. All
submission must be on manual calculation.
